Charity Shop Assistant

RSPCA Shop North Finchley, 736 High Road, N12 9QD

30 hours per week (Tuesday - Saturday 11:00 - 17:30)

12.36 per hour (19281.60 PA)

RSPCA Finchley & District branch is independently run and is a separately registered charity. We are responsible for all of our own funding, the majority of which is done by our two charity shops, which funds all of our branch animal welfare work locally.

We are looking for a Charity Shop Assistant to join our team to assist the shop managers with the smooth and profitable running of the shops. The successful applicant will also be responsible for covering the shops when the managers are on holiday/or absent.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide excellent levels of customer service, welcome and greet customers who shop and donate to our charity shops. Serving customers at the till and assisting customers on the shop floor. Keeping the shops fully stocked and inviting at all times. Keeping the shops clean, tidy and presentable. Sort and process donated stock ready for the shop floor (hang, steam, clean, tag & price). Keep up to date with product information and legislation. Manage all aspects of the shop floor including till operation, cash handling, banking, volunteer management in the shop managers absence. To promote the presence of the shop within the local community through in-shop activities and events. To attend as requested, meetings and development training courses and to undertake other duties which may arise. Follow all branch policies and procedures. Assist the manager in training shop volunteers and delegate tasks to shop volunteers.

Additional Duties

Occasionally you may be asked if you would like to help at fundraising events throughout the year.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

Must be flexible Monday - Sunday, this role will include working Mondays & Sundays on occasion for holiday/sickness cover. Live within or locally to the Branch area. (Finchley, Golders Green, Hendon, Edgware). Able to prioritise workload, to work on their own initiative, cope under pressure and find solutions to problems. Computer literate, good verbal, written & numerical skills. Passionate about animal welfare and the RSPCA's charity mission and ethics. Excellent communication skills. Excellent customer service skills, professional and confident with dealing with members of the public and difficult situations. Able to come up with new ideas and solutions to boost sales and generate more stock donations. Able to work on weekends / bank holidays when required. Basic knowledge of Health & Safety and Fire regulations with the ability to identify potential risks.

Knowledge of clothing brands Interest in collectables and vintage items Previous charity retail experience Visual merchandising experience

There is a 3 month probationary period for all new employees.
