The Chef is responsible for delivering high?quality, nutritious meals that meet the diverse dietary needs of residents while maintaining excellent standards of food safety, hygiene, and organisation. This role involves menu execution, stock management, leadership of the Kitchen Assistant (KA) & hostess, and ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
Key Responsibilities
Menu Delivery & Meal Preparation
Follow the weekly menu plan, ensuring all meals are prepared to a high standard and in line with residents' preferences.
Prepare and serve meals that meet a wide range of dietary requirements, including allergies, intolerances, fortified diets, and texture?modified meals.
Ensure all meals comply with
IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative)
guidelines where required.
Serve lunch on time each day, ensuring smooth and efficient service.
Team Leadership & Daily Coordination
Direct and support the Kitchen Assistant (KA) with daily food preparation tasks including sandwiches for supper, preparing vegetables and baking.
Delegate tasks clearly and ensure the KA & hostess understand the daily priorities and standards.
Maintain positive communication with the wider care team to support resident wellbeing.
Resident Interaction
Communicate politely and clearly with residents regarding meal choices and preferences.
Respond to individual dietary needs or concerns in a respectful and person?centred manner.
Compliance & Documentation
Complete all required paperwork accurately and in line with
QCS (Quality Compliance Systems)
guidelines.
Maintain up?to?date records relating to food safety, temperature checks, cleaning schedules, and allergen management.
Ensure full compliance with
HACCP
procedures and all relevant health and safety regulations.
Stock Control & Ordering
Manage kitchen stock levels, ensuring all ingredients and supplies are available as needed.
Rotate stock appropriately to minimise waste and maintain freshness.
Assist with receiving deliveries and ensuring correct storage procedures are followed.
Kitchen Hygiene & Safety
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised kitchen environment at all times.
Ensure all equipment is used safely and maintained in good working order.
Follow infection control procedures and food hygiene standards consistently.
Skills & Attributes
Strong cooking skills with experience in catering for varied dietary needs.
Knowledge of IDDSI, HACCP, and food safety regulations.
Excellent organisational and time?management abilities.
Clear communication skills with both residents and staff.
Ability to lead and support a small team.
Reliable, calm under pressure, and committed to high standards.
Working hours are 7 am - 3 pm. We work on a 4-day work week rota pattern, and this includes every other weekend.
