Chemistry Support Delivery Manager



Chemring Energetics UK is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers.

We are looking for an experienced and driven Chemistry Support Delivery Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team delivering vital analytical services across our business. This is a key leadership role that combines technical excellence with strategic planning and operational oversight. You will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of chemistry support services, while playing a pivotal role in process improvement, facility management, and the ongoing development of your team.

Key Responsibilities



Leadership & Team Management



Provide clear leadership and direction to the Chemistry Support Team. Develop team capabilities through coaching, performance management, and structured training. Ensure competency and training matrices are maintained and dual-competency goals are achieved across all tasks.

Operational Delivery & Quality Assurance



Deliver analytical testing services in line with business priorities and product schedules. Monitor raw material quality against specifications and maintain strict quality control practices. Ensure test plans (including R&D schedules) are up-to-date and conflicts in capacity or resource are proactively managed. Prepare and manage departmental budgets, including business cases for capital investment in facilities and equipment.

Facilities & Safety Management



Ensure facilities and test equipment comply with H&S, environmental, and licensing regulations. Lead and document safety reviews, risk assessments, audits, and incident reporting (including Near Miss reporting). Maintain highest standards of housekeeping, ensure timely waste disposal, and conduct regular 5S audits.

Documentation & Compliance



Oversee documentation control, ensuring analytical specifications, test procedures, user manuals, and build records are current and compliant. Ensure the secure and licensed storage of energetic materials, with regular audits for accountability and compliance.

Continuous Improvement



Implement improvements in analytical methods, facility use, and testing procedures to enhance efficiency and quality. Support business-wide continuous improvement and lean initiatives, including root cause analysis and Six Sigma projects.

Qualifications & Experience Required



Essential:



Proven managerial experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment. ISO 9001:2015 Auditor Certification. HNC/HND or equivalent experience in an engineering, chemistry, or mechatronics discipline. NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent health and safety qualification). Green Belt Lean Six Sigma or equivalent experience in CI projects. Demonstrable experience in the development and management of test facilities. Strong knowledge of risk assessments, safety principles (especially relating to energetics), and security requirements. Understanding of electronics, signal processing, and relevant programming tools.

Desirable:



Experience with Permit to Work systems. Quality assurance and sampling principles (e.g. BS6001). Familiarity with business systems and their application to laboratory/testing environments. Strong technical writing and data interpretation skills.
