The Chief Accountant role at Middlesbrough Council leads the closure of accounts process, technical accounting agenda, and financial controls, working closely with senior leadership to ensure robust external reporting. • Oversee financial reporting and ensure compliance with statutory requirements and regulations.

A successful Chief Accountant should have:

• A professional qualification in accounting or finance (e.g., CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA).
• Proven expertise in financial management and reporting.
• Strong knowledge of Public Sector financial regulations and practices.
• Experience in leading and managing accounting teams.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
