The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking an experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to contribute to the development and implementation of the Authority's strategies and policies, while providing leadership and management oversight of the Authority's infrastructure. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, the COO will effectively communicate and foster growth among the Executive Team and employees. This is a vital leadership role that will drive results, spur growth and increase the overall efficiency of the Authority. The role will involve regular interface with the BMA's Board of Directors (Board) on strategic initiatives, as well as leading significant capital projects in support of the Authority's business plan and objectives.
This is a key role for the Authority, and the post-holder will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Providing oversight to Department Heads and ensuring their leadership and execution align with the Authority's business plan and overall strategic vision
Partnering with the Deputy Chief Executive Officer to set challenging and realistic goals for growth, performance and profitability for the wider Authority
Working closely with the Senior Management Team to develop, implement and roll out plans for operational processes, internal infrastructures, reporting systems and company policies
Creating effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes
Assisting Executive Team members in creating, growing and building a world-class, industry-leading regulator
Contributing to the accurate and timely financial reporting of the Authority's operational condition
Managing capital investment and expenses to ensure the Authority achieves established targets relative to growth and profitability
Presenting new ideas and cash flow strategies to the Board and C-suite Executives
Fostering a growth-oriented, positive and encouraging environment while keeping employees and management accountable to company policies, procedures and guidelines
Cultivating strategic partnerships and relationships with clients, vendors and all other professional business relationships
Promoting collaboration and communication throughout the Authority for the benefit of information flow and to preclude any issues and concerns
The position requires a proven technical and business background. Therefore, the post-holder must have:
A master's degree in a relevant discipline, such as business, finance, or accounting, from a recognised institution or professional body
A minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant operations experience, of which at least ten (10) years should be in a senior-level finance and/or operations role within the insurance, banking or financial services sectors
Strong financial management skills commensurate with this leadership position
Demonstrable experience in change management and business process re-engineering
Experience working within a regulated financial services institution would be desirable
