We are seeking compassionate and motivated individuals to join our team as
Child-to-Parent Abuse (CPA) Practitioners
.
This role is about supporting
parents and carers who are experiencing abuse from their children
. Our service is focused entirely on helping
adults
(we do not provide direct support to children or young people).
You don't need to come with previous experience in counselling or domestic abuse service,
we provide full training and ongoing development.
What matters most is that you are empathetic, a great listener, non-judgemental, and motivated to make a difference.
This role is an excellent opportunity for those looking to start or change their career into counselling, family support, or specialist services.
Key Responsibilities
You'll receive full training to carry out the following:
Work 1:1 with parents and carers, providing tailored support via phone, video call, text, email, and (where needed) in person.
Develop personalised support plans with parents, always prioritising safety and wellbeing.
Provide emotional support, advocacy, and practical guidance.
Facilitate support groups and workshops (including some evening sessions).
Maintain accurate records, case notes, and complete administrative tasks.
Manage your own diary and caseload effectively.
Take part in regular team meetings, supervision, and training.
Contribute to reports, outcomes tracking, and impact measurement.
Support the triage process for referrals.
Represent PEGS at external events or meetings where appropriate.
What We're Looking For
We know that not everyone will tick every box -- and that's okay. We're looking for the
right people, not the perfect CV.
Essential qualities:
Strong communication and active listening skills.
Empathy, patience, and a non-judgemental approach.
Comfortable hearing parents share very personal and sometimes distressing experiences, and able to offer calm, supportive responses.
Willingness to learn trauma-informed ways of working.
Good organisational skills and ability to manage your own workload.
Confident using computers to keep records and communicate.
Comfortable working independently and as part of a supportive team.
It's a bonus (but not essential) if you have:
Experience in advocacy, customer service, coaching, mentoring, or other people-focused roles.
Knowledge of domestic abuse, safeguarding, or support services.
An understanding of the challenges faced by parents experiencing child-to-parent abuse.
Experience delivering workshops, group sessions, or training.
Why Join Us?
Full training and ongoing professional development provided.
A chance to start or grow a career in counselling, family support, or specialist services.
Join a supportive, values-driven team making a real difference for parents and carers.
Opportunities to contribute to innovative programmes and raise awareness of CPA.
What a Typical Day Might Involve
Here are some examples of what your day could include:
Speaking with a group of parents over a video call, who are sharing their personal and sometimes very distressing experiences, offering them calm and supportive guidance. This may be during the day or in the evening (a rota sheet is in place)
121 sessions with high risk parents you are already supporting, updating their support plans, and making sure they feel heard and understood.
Facilitating or helping to run a group support session or workshop (occasionally in the evening).
Writing up case notes and ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
Attending a team meeting, supervision session, or training workshop to build your skills and reflect on practice.
Responding to emails, and triage new referrals and enquiries from new parents reaching out for help.
Advocating for a parent by drafting a letter or attending a meeting with them.
A Note to Applicants
We know people often rule themselves out if they don't meet every requirement. Please don't. If you share our values and want to support parents and carers, we'd love to hear from you.
