Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic childcare support worker to join our team!

The main purpose of this role is to enable the Burgh Out of School Club to fulfil its aim of providing fun, quality out of school care in a safe environment for primary school aged children in Galashiels.

Responsibilities will include:

Care and supervision of children with regards to physical, emotional and intellectual needs.

Preparing and organising safe and appropriate activities for all ages and abilities.

Providing and preparing snacks for children.

Adhering to the club's policies and procedures

To administer first aid and dispense medicines if required, to get medical help and accompany the child if required, and phone the parents to let them know the situation

Ensuring the preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the playroom, kitchen facilities, toilets and equipment in accordance with risk assessments.

Liaising and communicating effectively with parents/carers, school staff and other professionals as required.

Ensuring confidentiality is maintained.

Assisting management with reviewing and updating all policies and procedures as required.

Attend relevant meetings and training courses and reporting to other staff and committee

Carrying out accurate administration, accident and incident records, risk assessment and petty cash transactions in line with policies and procedures.

Help to set up any equipment required for each session and tidy equipment away at the end of each session. Keeping up to date with current local and national policy developments in childcare.

Provide one to one care where needed

Person Specifications:

An SVQ level 3 Social Services (Children and Young People), SCQF level 7 Children and Young People, HNC Childhood Practice or other relevant qualification is desirable, or candidate must have willingness to undertake a relevant qualification

SSSC registered or willingness to register

Food hygiene and first aid certificates or willingness to complete

Experience of working with children and young people

Experience of working as part of a team

Knowledge of child protection legislation

Friendly and approachable

Self-motivated and can work to own initiatives

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 6 - 12 per week
