Salary: 25,000 pro rata (FTE)

Hours: 21 hours per week

Contract: 1-year fixed term with

the hope of extension (funding dependent)

Start date: September 2025

The Role



We're looking for a creative, proactive Children and Families Worker to shape and grow our outreach to families across the Barton Estate.

While experience is preferred, we're willing to consider candidates with less experience if they're the right fit for our community.

About Us



Barton Community Church is a small Church with a big vision. Planted 15 years ago in the heart of the Barton estate in Oxford, we follow an incarnational model, making Barton not just a project, but our home. Our Sunday gathering welcomes around 40 people from all walks of life seeking hope and healing. In one of Oxford's most deprived areas (bottom 20% on the indices of deprivation), our community faces challenges like educational disadvantage, family breakdown, and limited services for children and families--but we also see real opportunities for transformation through the hope of Jesus. We work closely with Love Barton, a sister charity we founded, to serve and support the local community in practical and faith-filled ways.

Key Responsibilities



Sunday Kid's Work



Lead and coordinate children's ministry during Sunday gatherings (currently 6-8 kids) and monthly community lunches. Inspire and equip volunteers to create engaging, faith-filled experiences for a growing number of children, many of whom are new to church life. Midweek Children's Club Launch and oversee a midweek children's club creating a safe space for kids from the estate to learn about Jesus in a fun and engaging way.

Volunteer Team



Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers across all kids' activities Develop volunteer recruitment strategies using church notices, social media, and events Run training sessions to equip volunteers for their roles Oversee scheduling and ensure all safeguarding/training requirements are met Invest in volunteers through encouragement, recognition, and support Holiday Club Run an annual Holiday Club that provides meals, fun activities, and opportunities to encounter Jesus. (Work in partnership with other Churches/organisations)

Kingdom Tots



Oversee the weekly toddler group (15 families), either by leading or training a volunteer leader. Support families in transitioning from the group into the wider church community.

Family Services



Host all age family services at Church once a term. Ensure services are accessible and inclusive, providing a welcoming environment for families to worship and learn about the Christian faith.

Missional Opportunities



Support Love Barton and Church team to help run events at Easter, Halloween and Christmas.
These are the main responsibilities of the role, but they are not exhaustive or fixed. We are committed to shaping the role around the strengths, passions, and experience of the person we appoint.

About You



The ideal candidate will:

Have a personal Christian faith and a passion for helping children and families encounter Jesus. Demonstrate experience in children's ministry and/or family outreach work Be a self-starter, able to work independently and manage time effectively Show creativity, resilience, and adaptability for working in a challenging community context. Have excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with people from diverse backgrounds Hold up-to-date safeguarding training (or be willing to undertake it)

There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be a Christian Right to work in the UK The post requires an enhanced DBS check
