Venus has an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to gain post graduate qualification in evidence-based psychotherapies for children and young people.
Venus is a Sefton-based charity that provides support to our local community, families, and individuals. As part of the charity and based at the Star Centre, we offer support and therapeutic interventions specifically for children, young people and their families.
The Trainee SFP Practitioner post will help develop key skills required to be an evidence-based practitioner. The course will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop general core clinical skills and theoretical knowledge, with specialism in systemic family practice for mood (depression) and self-harm, behavioural (conduct) issues and eating disorders.
Qualification:
Successful students will gain a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Evidence Based Psychological Approaches for Children & Young People - Systemic Family Practice (SFP) pathway - Association of Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (AFT) Accredited.

Applicants should have:
? an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification (level 6) or the ability to evidence through an essay that you can work at a postgraduate level.
? a minimum of 2 years of working in a core profession, e.g. counselling, social work, mental health nurse, occupational therapist.

Applicants need to be able to start the Post Graduate training programme taught academic dates in January 2026 (dates to be confirmed) and commit to attendance at all University based taught and self-study days required by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) Psychological Therapies Training Centre.
You will work within the service for the remaining days of the week using your newly developed skills to ensure you gain the necessary clinical practice hours to fulfil the academic programme. This is 100 hours of modality and case specific practice for the part time courses.

As a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) trainee, the post holder will deliver evidence based, client centred care to children and young people with mental health problems within the THRIVE Framework for service delivery and in line with their training programme.
The post holder will work under supervision whilst undertaking their PGDip. with the CYP/IAPT Psychological Therapies Training Centre. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children, young people or families referred to the service, using the core principles of CYP/IAPT practice along with an evidence-based intervention consistent with the course they are attending.
The post- holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the CYP/IAPT curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.
The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.
As the post is identified within the CYPMH strategy, it is expected the role will continue to develop in line with national and local initiatives.
