Background
Overview
BDC Mind is recruiting two Trainee Children and Young Peoples Wellbeing Practitioners (CYWPs). This is an exciting opportunity to train while working in a supportive mental health service dedicated to improving outcomes for children, young people, and their families.
CYWPs deliver low-intensity, evidence-based interventions for anxiety, depression and conduct-related difficulties, including guided self-help for young people and parents/carers.
These posts form part of the national Children and Young Peoples mental health transformation initiative.
Training
The role includes enrolment on the Postgraduate Diploma in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment: Children and Young Peoples Wellbeing Practitioner, starting January 2026. Applicants must be available to start on this date and able to commit to the full training year.
Training is delivered by Greater Manchester Psychological Therapies Training Centre (University of Manchester), Prestwich.
Trainees must attend all taught and self-study days set by the training provider.
You do not need a degree to apply.
Candidates without an undergraduate qualification are welcome but will need to demonstrate academic suitability by completing a short written assignment as part of the selection process.

CYP IAPT
The Children and Young Peoples Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (CYP IAPT) is a service transformation programme delivered by Health Education England and partners that aims to improve existing children and young peoples mental health services working in the community. Training will be integrated fully within BDC Minds CYP mental health services, and linked to the CYP IAPT Collaborative.
Role Purpose
This is a training role within the CYP IAPT programme. The post-holder will work within BDC Minds CYP services as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering, under supervision, high-quality; outcomeinformed, focused, evidence-based interventions for CYP experiencing, mild to moderate anxiety, low mood, behavioural difficulties
The training and service experience will equip the post holder with the necessary knowledge, attitude and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, value driven service.
The post holder will attend all university based taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the agreed national curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills
Role responsibilities
To work within the BDC Minds CYP services to offer outcome focused, evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
Working in partnership, support children, young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their families in the self-management of presenting difficulties.
To identify, respond to and report safeguarding incidents, in line with relevant policies and procedures.
To be committed to a quality approach for CYP care.
Working in partnership with children, young people and families to complete needs and risk assessments, agree support plans and set goals
To manage busy caseloads; ensuring effective communication with families, professionals, staff, CYPs and more.
To operate within our clinical and case management supervision framework and engage effectively with supervision regularly.
To use a range of IT systems, ensuring high quality data is collected appropriately, kept securely and confidentially
To work in an innovative and child, young person and family centred way, in a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
To engage and manage your educational and training responsibilities and ensure all deadlines are met.
