Job Description

1. Role Overview



A Children's Care Assistant supports children and young people in a residential, foster, community, or educational care setting. The role involves providing personalised care, emotional support, and daily living assistance to ensure the safety, wellbeing, and development of each child.
This role requires a compassionate, patient, and reliable individual with at least

NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People)

or equivalent.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesPersonal Care & Support



Provide day-to-day care including hygiene support, dressing, feeding, and general supervision. Assist children with disabilities, learning difficulties, or behavioural challenges. Support children with daily routines (morning, bedtime, activities, school prep).

Emotional & Social Support



Build trusting, positive relationships with children and young people. Provide emotional reassurance and encouragement to promote self-esteem. Support children in developing communication, social, and life skills.

Safeguarding & Safety



Ensure a safe and secure environment by following safeguarding policies. Report concerns regarding welfare, safety, or behaviour promptly. Maintain high standards of infection control and health & safety.

Education & Development



Assist with homework, learning activities, and structured play. Encourage participation in recreational, creative, and outdoor activities. Contribute to personalised care plans and developmental goals.

Communication & Reporting



Maintain accurate records (daily logs, incident reports, progress notes). Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, social workers, and multidisciplinary teams. Attend staff meetings and mandatory training sessions.

Teamwork



Work collaboratively with other care staff. Support senior staff in implementing care strategies and behaviour plans.

3. Essential Requirements



Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care - Children & Young People

(or equivalent). Previous experience working with children (residential, school, nursery, or community setting). Understanding of child safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation. Good communication skills, patience, empathy, and resilience. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, or shifts when required.

4. Desirable Skills & Qualifications



NVQ Level 3 or willingness to work towards it. Training in First Aid, Autism Awareness, Behaviour Management, or SEND. Full UK driving licence.

5. Compliance Requirements (to include in JD if needed)



Eligibility to work in the UK. Valid ID & Proof of Address. Enhanced DBS Check (Children's Workforce). CV and last 2 employment references. Proof of Qualifications. Criminal Convictions Declaration.
Pay: 12.50-13.50 per hour

Expected hours: 36 per week

Work Location: In person
