JOB OVERVIEW
As an entry level Children's Occupational Therapist you will be working with direct and indirect support from a Senior Occupational Therapist. You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and diary. Day to day responsibilities of the role includes:
- Providing assessment and intervention to children within schools with a range of handwriting, coordination, fine and gross motor, concentration and sensory difficulties.
- Identifying and facilitating group sessions for children within school.
- Liaison with SENCOs, Teachers and Parents in relation to support provided.
- To advocate for the role of OTs within schools and provide training and education to teaching staff in order to support pupils' progress.
- Keeping and managing up to date clinical records for all clients seen in line with professional standards - ensuring written consent is gained prior to OT involvement.
- Delegating suitable tasks to an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
- Creating goal orientated intervention plans for the Occupational Therapy Assistant to deliver.
ADDITIONAL CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE
- Undertaking Occupational Therapy assessments within clinic, home or schools for children with a wide range of needs.
- Completing professional Occupational Therapy reports following assessment with comprehensive evaluation and analysis of need and providing outcome objectives and recommendations for the child and family.
- Create and deliver individual intervention programmes based on assessment provided including smart goals and review process.
- Facilitating Occupational Therapy groups over school holidays.
- Undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate within your role to reflect being part of the team at Liverpool Occupational Therapy Services.
CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- To actively engage in clinical supervision on a regular basis with your clinical supervisor. Informal supervision can also be sought.
- To seek out training/education opportunities that directly support progression within your role and relating to appraisal goals.
- To show dedication to seeking out CPD opportunities and keeping up to date with your personal CPD record.
- To actively engage in researching up-to-date evidence to be used as clinical foundation for intervention planning and delivery.
- To engage in reflective practice in order to evaluate progression.
- To engage in the appraisal process and be responsible for identifying and fulfilling goals set within this.
- To provide clinical supervision to OT assistants or Apprentice OT's.
PROFESSIONAL/ORGANISATIONAL
- HCPC registration and RCOT membership essential. To practice within the guidelines set out by organisational and professional bodies.
- To communicate effectively with clients, families and other professionals through a range of methods (report writing, verbal, email, telephone etc).
- Demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills during management of own workload and to be flexible in working patterns to support the needs of clients and the overall business.
- Responsible for complying with all mandatory training requirements.
- Contribution to service developments.
