In the absence of the Registered Manager to be responsible for all admin/child care functions at the Home.
-To discriminate effectively between those decisions which can be deferred and those which need immediate attention.
- To make decisions in accordance with Group, Line Manager and Ofsted's expectations for the Home.
- To become fully conversant with the Groups philosophy and policies.
- To respect and maintain the confidential nature of the work.
To assist the Registered Manager to promote good child care practice within the home, this will include:
- Day to day supervision and guidance of staff regarding standards of care in line with the National Minimum Standards for Children's Homes and the wider implications of group guidelines, procedures, instructions and Policies e.g. health care, children's rights, child care law etc.
- To play a significant role in supervision of Key Workers encouraging them to be responsible for and accountable to senior staff in ensuring effective assessment monitoring, planning and evaluating for each child takes place.
- To ensure that full and complete casework records for young people are maintained and that sound decisions are made and carried out.
- To assist the Registered Manager in ensuring specific plans are carried out.
-To demonstrate good child care practices in own direct work with children to provide a model for other staff members.
To be directly involved in Case Conferences, Reviews and Planning Meetings.
To compile written reports as and when necessary.
To actively seek the views and opinions of children and provide a platform from which they can be heard.
To help other staff to compile reports and encourage them to involve the children in reviews.
To attend and participate in case conferences/reviews/planning meetings as when appropriate.
To assist the Registered Manager in ensuring specific administrative tasks are performed accurately.
-To carry out specific tasks as delegated by the Registered Manager and his/her Deputy.
-To monitor and assist other staff members in carrying out their administrative duties.
-To be responsible for all administrative functions/operations in the absence of Registered Manager.
-To assist the Registered manager and his/her Deputy in the management of the staff team in a manner which maximises their output and enables them to achieve their potential.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To help maximise the potential capabilities of all young people at Gratia Cura, physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.
- To provide choice wherever possible and enable young people to make their own decisions as appropriate.
- To work with and follow professional advice and known alternative communication strategies to enable all young people to have 'a voice'.
- To work within bespoke and individualised packages of care to provide the best possible outcomes for young people.
KEY TASKS:
- To support the personalised development of each young person.
- To respect the dignity and individuality of each young person.
- To ensure a high standard of personal care for each young person, including matters of physical wellbeing and personal hygiene.
- To be aware of all the set targets and aspirations of each young person.
- To accept Keyworker responsibility for individual young people (see over).
- To work on a rostered shift system inclusive of some evening and weekend work.
- To support in a classroom environment providing educational support to pupils.
- Working across different sites and with different young people as directed and getting to know all young people over time.
- To supervise young people in and outside of the home.
- To work within any residential setting as required at the time by the site management team.
- To read and adhere to the young person's risk assessments and individual placement plans, keeping notes and records as required.
- To attend team meetings and individual support and supervision meetings with the line manager.
- To support young people out in the community, on activities and holidays and be a company vehicle driver as requested and once trained.
- To always ensure the safety of the young person.
- To support other members of the site staff in their therapeutic/educational work as laid out in the young person's placement plan and always providing consistency of care and intervention.
- Be prepared to provide support and personal care to someone who has contracted an infection or virus such as Norovirus or Covid.
- To undertake any training identified as necessary to carry out the role effectively.
- To take responsibility for ensuring all training classed as mandatory is kept up to date.
- To complete the appropriate Diploma Level 3 as requested and in accordance with OFSTED guidelines.
- Work within the spirit and intentions of the Equal Opportunities and Equality & Diversity policies and procedures and report any concerns to your line manager immediately.
- Be jointly responsible for the safeguarding of children in our care, it is a requirement of this role that you adhere to all relevant safeguarding policies and procedures and report ANY concerns immediately to a senior staff member.
- Any other duties reasonably considered by management as necessary for the safe and successful running of the home.
- To fully engage with young people and take part in activities and leisure pursuits, including physical activities such as sports.

- It is your professional responsibility to help protect those in our care and keep yourself and colleagues safe. Where you are required to provide close contact care, support or any level of physical intervention you will be required to wear PPE and take part in regular Coronavirus testing, this is mandatory across our services. In addition, you may be required to care for or support those who may have an illness, infection or virus such as Coronavirus (including asymptomatic cases), it is therefore strongly recommended that you have the Covid-19 vaccine and any required booster jabs where there is no medical or religious reason not to do so.
Key worker Responsibilities
On successful completion of the probationary period, the duty of 'Keyworker' can be assigned to an RSW.
The Key worker role within the team:
Each young person requires a Key worker who: -
- Knows them well; knows their history, strengths, weaknesses, medical needs, family structure, and the nature of their learning difficulty.
- The Key worker has to focus and co-ordinate the endeavours of the team to provide for the young persons assessed needs in the residential setting are to be identified by the appropriate provider. Main tasks include:
- To improve the quality of life of the key person by ensuring satisfaction of his/her needs.
- To enable the young person to keep moving forward towards agreed goals.
- To assist the key person to keep contact with family and friends.
- To compile written reports on the key person's development.
- attend reviews and write reports outline progress or any other actions deemed necessary around their care
- To communicate with all stake holders.
