About the role
As a Transport Officer you will be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at all times. Provide transportation for children from the provided location to their destination as ordered by the local authority, their social worker/carer. Receive and pass relevant information regarding the well-being of the child during transit.
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop warm and trusting relationships with the young person in transit (and their care workers) and to encourage them to communicate any needs, preferences or concerns
Respect the young person's right to privacy and to ensure that their dignity is maintained at all times
Support the young person in meeting their cultural and spiritual needs and in expressing their personal identity
Ensure the young person is safe and secure during transit
Report all concerns regarding the young person to the appropriate person/ manager
Provide a pleasant, safe and reliable journey
Complete the required checks and minor maintenance of the fleet of vehicles as required
Follow health and safety guidelines and alert a senior member of staff on duty of any concerns in relation to possible health and welfare concerns of the young person and staff
Take appropriate action in the event of accidents, incidents and emergencies, ensuring that a senior member of staff is informed, and the incident is documented
Follow the guidance and risk management outlined in the young person's risk assessment
Work in a safe and responsible manner to ensure safeguarding of the young person from harm at all times
Keep the vehicles in a clean, safe, and comfortable condition at all times
Take responsibility for your own health and safety
Ensure that all records are kept up to date and in the prescribed format
Document all work undertaken at the correct time and manner
Liaise with other professionals, carers and families as needed to ensure the young person receives high quality consistent service
Complete any reasonable and lawful instruction related to work and given by an authorised person
Person Specification
Education
GCSE in English and Maths - Preferred
Requirements
You must have a full UK Driving Licence
Participate in compulsory training when required to attend
Maintain confidentiality at all times in accordance with agreed policy
You must be able to commute/travel to the head office in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire
You will be expected to travel/drive nationally (Including Scotland and Wales)
Experience and Skills
Excellent listening and communication skills
Relevant English language skills - ability to communicate effectively with the young person, your peers and management

Employment details
Contract Type: Self employed
Hours: Monday to Friday, Night Shift, Weekends - According to your availability
Salary from 15 per hour increasing to 18 after 6 completed transports

Because the role involves contact with children, you will be required to undergo the relevant vetting checks. A DBS check will be required which will be done through Serenity Welfare. This will include checking for criminal convictions and checking that you are not barred from working with children. All information you provide will be treated as confidential and managed in accordance with relevant data protection legislation and guidance. You have a legal right to access any information held about you. You will also be subject to an in-house driving assessment, and drug and alcohol testing to determine the use of illegal drugs.
