Job Introduction

Children's Services are seeking a Support Services Officer to work primarily in the Safeguarding/LADO and Corporate Parenting hub, although you may be required to provide support across the whole service.


Based in Civic and at the Holne Chase Centre, you'll provide professional and efficient support to the teams with a wide range of tasks including supporting child protection meetings and LADO (Local Authority Designated Officer) administrative tasks, processing financial requests, invoice management, and minute taking when required.

This is a site-based role.

Role Responsibilities
Provide direct business support for Children's Services, ensuring all statutory timescales are met. Accurately maintain records and in accordance with regulations and procedures. Take high level and often complex minutes at all relevant meetings. Assisting with scheduling and preparing information for distribution. Management of purchase orders and payments in accordance with the Council's finance procedures using the Council's electronic finance systems. This may also involve monitoring petty cash amounts. Support multi agency working between Milton Keynes City Council and other local authorities/agencies and maintain professional links. Provide a polite, professional first point of contact for visitors. Have an awareness of the safeguarding and health and safety requirements for the premises and the staff, in line with council policies and procedures. Supporting the induction of new colleagues and to provide a level of 1:1 monitoring, supporting colleagues welfare and work activities and escalating any issues to the Children's Services Deputy Business Managers

Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team and working in a supportive environment but who can work proactively and positively to solve problems and ensure our teams receive professional and efficient administrative support. The role is varied and requires good prioritisation and organisation skills and also a keen eye for detail. Good communication and emotional resilience are essential in this role.

Our roles are either designated 'site based' or 'home based'. 'Site based' roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst 'home based' roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
