Summary

We are looking for regular assistance for our six-year-old daughter to be part of her world as she grows up -working with us as a family to help her to achieve her goals.

About the role

Our little girl is six years old. She is a lovely, happy child with blond hair and a cheeky smile. She loves music, watching television and is absolutely fascinated by water so water play is a big hit with her.

She has global development delay, is doubly incontinent, and has strong traits of Autism, although does not yet have a formal diagnosis. She needs support, encouragement and nurturing to help her grow up and thrive in a world that she struggles to understand.

She is very sensory focused and likes to touch people. She is nonverbal and communicates through hand gestures, vocalization such as screaming or laughing, and her behaviour. With her sensory needs and being non-verbal this can lead to our daughter becoming frustrated and overwhelmed.

She can at times be challenging in her behaviour as a way of dealing with these emotions and requires someone who is confident in their approach, who is able to support her appropriately in these moments and follow recommended strategies to help reduce the negative behaviour and help our child feel safe and happy engaging in activities that she enjoys.

She loves being outdoors, and the support will need to be focused on play - helping to foster social, emotional, and communication skills, as well as promoting engagement and independence.

She is more settled when there is routine and structure in place - struggling to manage change in her life. The personal assistant will need to be able to break down each activity into small, manageable steps so it is not overwhelming for our child - communicating with her verbally but also using pictures, gestures and objects to help her understand and feel included.

The support between the personal assistant and our daughter would initially be in small steps - building up trust and slowly getting to know each other. Having someone new in her life may initially be overwhelming for her so it is vital that we take it at her pace.

We are looking for regular assistance for our six-year-old daughter to be part of her world as she grows up -working with us as a family to help her to achieve her goals. The support will also enable us as her parents to take time out to recuperate and spend time with our other child.

The right person will be part of making a true difference in our child's life, and although the role at times may have its challenges, it will also be so rewarding and enriching being able to be part of our daughter's life journey
