Bullion Chocolate is a bean-to-bar chocolate factory in Sheffield, Kelham Island. We make chocolate from simply cocoa beans and cane sugar - building lasting relationships with the growers we buy from. We're always searching for good cocoa beans, and now we're looking for a Chocolate Production Manager to lead our growing production team.
About the Job
As a Chocolate Production Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations within the chocolate factory. You are responsible for the safety, engagement, welfare and performance of your team, whilst continuously ensuring quality of the products produced in a food safe environment.
A typical day on as a Chocolate Production Manager will involve roasting cacao, tempering bars and packing/wrapping orders. Our team cares deeply about the process and takes pride in an end product that reflects the hard work and care of our chocolate makers and producers. The production manager will be at the helm of this, leading the team in making this happen. You will be involved in leading our factory tours for visitors on Saturdays, showcasing what we do here at Bullion.
What you will be involved in:
- Maintaining high product quality and promoting bean-to-bar methods
- Involved in ensuring the workspace is safe for all team members and visitors on factory tours
- Leading factory tours, showcasing and educating visitors with what we do here at Bullion.
- Working on site, managing and supporting the team, ensuring timely completion of orders and dispatch to customer and clients.
- Using initiative, identifying any ways to reduce costs an improvement areas within the factory.
- Controls day-to-day operations by scheduling rotas, weekly plans and ordering.
- Hiring and training team members on how to craft our chocolate. Conducting interviews, performance appraisals, takes disciplinary action, motivates and trains. Has authority to hire and terminate (or participate in those decisions) with approval/partnership from Operations Manager.
- Ensures that the factory facility, equipment, and site is correctly maintained.
- Involved in customer relations - replying to customer emails and enquiries.
Requirements:
- Core experience working within a food production and manufacturing environment, with a thorough understanding of industry-specific processes and regulations.
- Experience in managing and leading teams. Ability to drive personal development in staff, and continuous improvement in the workplace to stay self motivated and promote improvement within the team.
- A peoples-person, who loves working with customers. Being confident in talking to customers about how we craft our chocolate.
- A 'problem solving' mindset. Skilled in using their initiative in all aspects of the role.
- Time management, understanding the need for work proritisation and break down of tasks for others.
- The ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and walking throughout your shift. This position requires that you be moving on your feet for most of the day and to occasionally lift heavy objects. We also do tasks that require repetitive motion.
- A hands on person, who isn't afraid to get stuck in with the production process!
Desirable:
- L2 Food Hygiene and Food Safety standards.
- Knowledge of HACCP practices.
- Prior experience of bean-to-bar practices, or experience within a chocolate production facility.
This roles core hours will be between Tuesday- Saturday, between 9am-5pm.
