We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world\'s leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

Role Purpose

Leading all aspects of the UK IBM Z CICS Cluster, which provides high availability products and services supporting critical business functions within HSBC through service, commercial, technology and people management.

Principal Accountabilities:

Impact on the Business

  • Service quality of all IBM Z CICS Cluster Products & Services in the UK by directly overseeing the IBM Z CICS support team.
  • Aid in developing expenditure budget and Annual Technology Plan covering the Portfolio and then deliver within agreed financial targets
  • Ensure the Products meet agreed service performance levels.
  • Deliver best value for the business through consistently meeting planned objectives and driving good commercial outcomes with vendors and service providers.
Customers / Stakeholders
  • Determining technical strategy and direction for UK IBM Z CICS Cluster aligned to Global IBM Z CICS Cluster strategy
  • Design, engineering and delivery of all IBM Z CICS Cluster products & services in the UK by directly overseeing the IBM Z CICS engineering pod in the UK
  • Vendor management and partnership, both in long term partnership strategy and day-to-day service management.
  • Build and maintain the trustful and professional relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Where appropriate challenge existing conventions, processes and procedures to drive positive change against time, quality and cost for the benefit of our customers and stakeholders
Leadership & Teamwork
  • Develop staff, motivate, and engender a collaborative ethos within the team and retain high performing staff.
  • Building the global community promoting the right attitude and behaviour.
  • People development by establishing both technical and management career paths for all IBM Z CICS staff in the UK.
  • Promote the highest professional standards across the team.
  • Live the HSBC/CTO/ES values and drive adoption of those values across the team
  • Be actively engaged in moving the IBM Z platform and the greater Enterprise Services function forward by having contributed, provided guidance and thought leadership
  • Ensure demand on the UK IBM Z CICS Cluster is closely aligned with global capability and workforce management objectives
Qualifications

The jobholder will typically:
  • Acquired a wide range of IBM Z Storage technical and management experience
  • Experience and proven track record in service quality and commercial oriented management.
  • In-depth understanding of the technical product and platform usages within the Enterprise Services sub-function and future roadmaps
  • Strong leadership and management skills together with the ability to motivate staff from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to work in a multi geography, culturally diverse and time zone separated management role
  • Good communications skills and ability to motivate and communicate at all levels of the organization
  • Analytical with the ability to understand and resolve complex problems
  • Have an understanding of the business environment and imperatives, particularly the provision of excellent customer service.
  • Have sound vendor management skills and experience.
  • Have proven experience in driving the execution of technology product development plans or roadmaps
  • Be able to demonstrate presence and adaptability through overcoming diverse demands of customers and ability to overcome conflict and achieve consensus
  • Be able to exhibit technical credibility with both ITO and business stakeholders
Desirable Skills

An awareness of the political and economic factors which influence or impact the business of the bank.

Breadth and depth of knowledge of technical functions, coupled with an extensive understanding of how the associated products are implemented in HSBC.

End to end service view and full understanding of the roles of technical infrastructure layers in providing a service.

Knowledge of the business environment and imperatives, particularly the provision of excellent customer service.
