Cleaning Hygiene Manager

Leicester, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Contract: Professional Services, Production & Technology

Location: Wigston, Leicester (LE18 2FL)

Hours of work: 40 (Mon - Fri)

Contract Type: Permanent

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Cleaning Hygiene Manager to lead a team of six within a busy food manufacturing facility.

This is a physically demanding role within a hot, kitchen-style environment, and requires a manager who is comfortable stepping in to support the team during clean-downs when needed.

The position involves managing cleaning standards across production equipment post-bake, ensuring hygiene compliance at all times, and maintaining readiness for frequent internal and external audits.

In addition to day-to-day operational oversight, you will also be responsible for recruitment, onboarding, appraisals and ongoing staff development.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, support and motivate a hygiene team of six across the facility. Oversee resourcing, recruitment, performance management and training schedules. Ensure all cleaning is carried out to the highest standards of hygiene and food safety. Participate in a high volume of audits from both internal parties and supermarket customers. Manage compliance with all hygiene-related legislative, certification and customer requirements. Provide hands-on operational support when required, particularly during peak periods or complex cleans. Deliver H&S inductions for new starters and ensure all documentation and records are fully up to date. Act as a key member of the internal audit team and support delivery of corrective / preventative actions.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

Proven experience managing teams in a demanding operational environment. Background in food production or hygiene management is highly desirable (but not essential if leadership and auditing exposure is strong). Experience of leading or participating in audits is essential. Comfortable working in an intensive, hot environment and prepared to assist the team hands-on where required. Experience with appraisals, coaching, recruitment and one-to-one development conversations. Strong understanding of compliance, H&S and quality control in a regulated environment.
