To provide administrative and procedural support to the Governing Body, ensuring its work is conducted efficiently, legally, and in accordance with statutory requirements. The Clerk plays a key role in facilitating effective governance and communication between governors, school leadership, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Duties:
Monitor and respond to emails from governors.
Circulate relevant information to governors.
Check for and manage complaints.
Maintain and update Governor Hub, including calendar, meeting folders, and documentation.
Weekly Duties:
Review calendar for upcoming meetings and prepare agendas.
Liaise with the Chair and Head Teacher to draft meeting agendas.
Type, circulate, and publish minutes for Full Governing Body (FGB) and Finance Committee (FC) meetings.
Monthly Duties:
Ensure agendas and minutes are prepared for monthly meetings.
Review policy checklist and notify staff of upcoming reviews.
Monitor governance briefings and incorporate relevant items into agendas.
Annual Duties:
Organise and clerk the Pay Committee meeting.
Update and create the Governance Improvement Plan (GIP).
Develop planners for the academic year.
Review and update annual governance documents including:
+ Code of Conduct
+ Visits Policy
+ Allowances Policy
+ Other statutory policies
Other Duties:
Update the Get Information About Schools (GIAS) database.
Manage governor elections as needed.
Respond to parental complaints when required.
Organise and clerk additional panel meetings.
Provide advice on statutory governance matters and legal frameworks.

Person Specification:
Essential:
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and impartiality.
Familiarity with governance procedures and statutory requirements, or a willingness to learn.
Proficiency in using digital platforms (e.g., Governor Hub, email, document management systems).
Desirable:
Previous experience in school governance or clerking.
Knowledge of education policy and legal frameworks.
Minute-taking experience.
