About the Team -

The clinical advice team is a small team of nurses and midwives working within Casework Support Services in Professional Regulation. Clinical advice can, in many cases, be very useful in helping us make fair, well-informed decisions. Clinical advice is aimed at assisting the decision-maker to understand the nature of the concern raised. The clinical advisor may suggest preliminary enquiries, either with the person raising the concern or others, for example employers.



About the Role -

You don't have to have experience of fitness to practise to join our team, we welcome professionals with all types of backgrounds and experiences. We are looking for people on our register, who have senior leadership experience in clinical practice who will be an asset to the clinical advice team, and the service it provides.
We would welcome applications from Nurses with experience in acute adult settings, such as Critical Care or A&E.

We are looking to recruit clinical advisers to work in our Professional Regulation Directorate, supporting our assessment and consideration of fitness to practise cases. You will be responsible for:
Providing comprehensive, best practice advice on clinical, management and leadership matters subject to fitness to practise consideration to aid understanding of the concern raised Informing assessment of the seriousness of the concern raised with reference to evidence-based practice, and suggest areas where the person raising the concern should be asked to provide further clarification Delivering education and training to colleagues to enhance understanding of the work of nursing and midwifery professionals; NHS structures; policies and procedures that govern practice for those on our register

About You


You will be an experienced Adult RN, Mental Health RN, Paediatric RN or a registrant with significant experience in aesthetics with a commitment to clinical excellence and demonstrable experience within your professional setting. With substantial, recent post registration senior experience, you will have a proven record and passion for delivering safe, quality care to patients.

It will be a condition of employment that you maintain your NMC registration.

You will:
Hold current NMC registration Hold a current RN/RMN qualification Experience of managing clinical and managerial investigations Be enthusiastic and motivated, with the flexibility to adapt to the challenges of a fast-paced environment Be an independent thinker, with excellent interpersonal skills, which inspire confidence in you Be a confident and clear communicator, able to influence colleagues Be able to understand and analyse complex and voluminous material to identify the key issues and present these clearly and concisely, with reference to the NMC Code

The role you are applying for is a flexible role, and whilst you will be posted initially to a team, this may require movement between teams as the flow of work dictates. You will of course understand that this flexible approach enables us to provide the best possible service to our registrants and reach the outcomes to our cases quickly and within a reasonable timeframe. This will not change your terms and conditions and will be discussed with you prior to you taking up the post.

Due to the nature of your role and the work undertaken by the NMC, on very rare occasions you may be required by the NMC or the Courts to assist in litigation proceedings or inquests. This may involve collating information, providing a witness statement, or giving oral evidence on behalf of the NMC.

Our Pay Policy





It is expected that staff new to the NMC will ordinarily be appointed to the bottom of the relevant pay band. However in exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a salary above the bottom of the relevant pay band but we may request proof of current earnings. Please note that we offer an annual review of salaries and adopt a generous progressive pay approach. Further details of which are available on request.
