Post holders are expected to be flexible and be prepared to carry out any similar or related duties which do not fall within the work outlined. The Line Manager, in consultation with the post holder will undertake any review. The NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework (the NHS KSF) defines and describes the knowledge and skills which NHS staff need to apply in their work in order to deliver quality services. It provides a consistent, comprehensive and explicit framework on which to base review and development for all staff. The post will be based in the Bridge Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) which is currently housed on the second floor of the Central Health Clinic, Tower Hill, Bristol.
The post holder will undergo a period of in depth training tailored to their needs and will be well supervised throughout this to provide "acute" examination of post pubertal children and adults who may have been subject to or who report sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault. Examinations will be supported by a crisis worker.
Where appropriate a joint examination with another doctor (e.g paediatrician) will be performed. The medical examinations will be undertaken at The Bridge SARC Centre of Excellence, Bristol; however, there may be times when the post-holder is required to attend other sites to perform medical examinations, for example, local hospitals in the wider area (Gloucestershire/Wiltshire/Avon and Somerset).
The post-holder will provide "on-call" services out of hours as part of an on-call rota during which they will attend "acute" medical examinations as required and will also be expected to offer advice, triage and support the forensic nurse examiners.
Whilst providing services, the post-holder will also provide telephone support and advice to professionals from partner agencies including police, social care and other health care professionals. This will include participating in strategy meetings/discussions, making referrals and attending multi agency discussions where appropriate.

The post holder will attend both civil and criminal courts as required to assist the court as a professional witness. The post-holder will continue to be available to attend court beyond the end of their employment with the service.
The post-holder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational/peer review meetings (minimum of 4 per year) and will be supported to attend external courses and educational opportunities in the field of forensic sexual offences medicine and obtain additional qualifications in the field such as MFFLM (SOE), LFFLM (SOE). They will be expected to complete appraisal and CPD activities in accordance with the GMC The post holder will be expected to provide a DNA sample for elimination purposes as part of their role.
