The position requires a hands-on approach to the every-day running of the charity, while providing line management for administrative staff and therapists, either employed directly by MCTC or self-employed.
The number of hours worked is 25 hours per week with flexible working hours to accommodate any out of normal hours working e.g. meetings with the Board of Directors/Trustees (every 3 months on average) or out of hours assessments/therapy sessions. Working from home is also available where appropriate. This will include time for a small clinical case load of 3 clients, at least one of which should be face to face.
Management of Clients
1. Manage enquiries to MCTC including those approaching MCTC for therapy.
2. Conduct some assessments and allocate clients to therapists (this could potentially be partially delegated to a suitably trained and experienced therapist with a thorough knowledge of the MCTC therapy team and their individual strengths, weaknesses, specialist experience etc).
3. Maintain a small personal client base (3 sessions per week).
Organisational Management
4. Manage and support MCTC therapists including annual appraisals.
5. Create and maintain a warm, community atmosphere at MCTC so that all staff and therapists feel supported in their work and all clients and visitors feel welcome.
6. Support and manage the MCTC team of therapists including any disagreements between therapists and/or staff.
7. Manage any grievances in accordance with MCTC's Grievance Procedure.
8. Provide pastoral care and support for MCTC therapists and staff.
9. Recruit new therapists as and when required - invite applications, read and review applications, conduct interviews with a member of the Board or other suitably qualified person.
10. Liaise with and monitor MCTC therapists working in schools.
11. Liaise with the Business Manager with regard to risk assessments and other statutory responsibilities.
12. Work closely with the Business Manager, Fundraiser and Chair of the Board to ensure operational needs are appropriately met.
13. Manage and monitor MCTC therapists' calendars and work through our online platform.
14. Provide or procure ongoing CPD for MCTC therapists.
Liaison with Board of Trustees
15. Create and maintain a good, trusting relationships with all members of the Board of Trustees.
16. Attend Board meetings when required to do so.
17. Maintain clear communication and provide written reports to the Board of Trustees on a regular basis.
18. Inform the Chair of the Board of any incidents, developments or significant changes between board meetings.
19. Monitor and maintain all MCTC policies and procedures and present them to the Board for review/ratification when appropriate.
Liaison with MCTC Training Organisation
20. Create and maintain a relationship with the MCTC Course Director and support them in integrating MCTC values and ethics into all levels of the course.
21. Proactively maintain links with our friends and mentors at the Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre.
External Liaison
22. Plan for and develop MCTC's future in collaboration with the Board, staff, therapists and outside agencies.
23. Pro-actively network with MCTC partners - current and potential.
24. Manage, non-defensively, any negative comments from clients or others.
25. Manage any complaints in accordance with MCTC's Complaints Procedure.
26. Represent MCTC in public e.g. giving presentations, interviews with local and national media etc.
27. Maintain good relationships with professional bodies.
28. Maintain good relationships with MCTC patrons.
