Job Title: Clinical Lead (Eithinog Nursing Home & Marian Centre)
Reports To: Registered Manager / Responsible Individual
Accountable To: Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) standards and NMC Code
Responsible For: Registered Nurses; Physiotherapist and Physiotherapy Team; Marian Centre (Hydrotherapy services for internal and external residents)
Purpose of Role
To provide strong clinical leadership and management within the nursing home, ensuring safe, high-quality, person-centred care for residents with complex needs. The Clinical Lead will oversee nursing practice, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation services, as well as the Marian Centre hydrotherapy facility, ensuring compliance with CIW regulations, the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014, and NMC standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Clinical Leadership & Governance
- Lead and support the nursing team in delivering evidence-based, person-centred care.
- Ensure compliance with CIW regulations, NMC Code of Conduct, and organisational policies.
- Conduct clinical audits, risk assessments, and reviews of care and treatment plans.
- Act as the senior clinical decision-maker in the absence of the Registered Manager.
- Promote best practice in safeguarding, infection prevention, and medicines management.
Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation Oversight
- Provide line management and professional support to the physiotherapist and physiotherapy team.
- Ensure rehabilitation goals are incorporated into individualised care plans.
- Promote multi-disciplinary working with external health professionals (e.g. GPs, community teams).
- Monitor therapy outcomes and report on progress against agreed targets.
Marian Centre (Hydrotherapy Services)
- Oversee the operational and clinical management of the Marian Centre.
- Ensure hydrotherapy services are safe, effective, and accessible to both residents and external clients.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety requirements, including infection prevention and pool management standards.
- Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and external referrals.
- Develop partnerships with commissioners, NHS services, and community organisations.
Team Management & Development
- Supervise, appraise, and support professional development of nursing and therapy staff.
- Identify and address training needs, ensuring mandatory training is up to date.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and reflective practice.
- Support recruitment, induction, and retention of high-quality staff.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Uphold safeguarding principles and act as a safeguarding lead where required.
- Maintain accurate, timely records in line with CIW and NMC requirements.
- Investigate and respond to incidents, complaints, and concerns in a timely, constructive manner.
- Drive service development and innovation to meet the needs of current and future residents.
Person Specification
Essential
- Registered Nurse (NMC) with valid PIN.
- Significant post-registration experience in complex needs or equivalent healthcare setting.
- Proven leadership, supervisory, and staff management skills.
- Understanding of physiotherapy and rehabilitation practices.
- Sound knowledge of CIW regulations and Welsh legislative frameworks (including Social Services and Well-being Act 2014, Regulation and Inspection of Social Care Act 2016).
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- Experience managing therapy teams or multi-disciplinary services.
- Understanding of hydrotherapy practice and pool safety standards.
- Postgraduate qualification in clinical leadership, management, or advanced practice.
- Welsh language skills (desirable but not essential).
