A permanent opportunity has arisen on Kahlo ward, our female acute for a Deputy Ward Manager.



We are looking for astute, dynamic and compassionate registered nurse and welcome a diversity of skill and knowledge.



Kahlo ward is a 19 bedded female acute ward which provides a safe and supportive environment to aid patients in their recovery.



The ward caters for patients within the ages of 18-65 years living in the boroughs of Havering, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, and B&D who are experiencing an acute episode of mental health illness, and may be high risk of harm towards themselves or others.



The post holder must have inpatient experience, it is desirable that you would have previously worked in an acute inpatient ward.



The post holder will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that is committed to the provision of high quality patient centred care for all who use the service. The ward teams has a strong nurse leadership including Staff Nurses, Band 6 Clinical Leads & Deputy Ward Managers, Ward Manager as well as a Modern Matron who provides operational leadership and a matron who provides clinical leadership.



Our Trust provides a wide range of mental health inpatient services including older adult, adult acute, Learning Disabilities, Psychiatric Intensive Care, Low secure services and young people.



You may already be in a Band 6 role and seeking a different challenge or you may be an experienced band 5 looking for carer progression .

The post holder will:

demonstrate that you are a proactive, abled and a responsive nurse both clinically and in leading a team of nurses. This will involve coordinating shifts and sharing your knowledge to guide and support staff to provide strategies in safely managing the presenting needs of our client group.



The posts require applicants to be able to work all shifts, including night duty.



Applicants should have a thorough knowledge of care planning and risk assessment for our client group including the ability to engage people who are acutely unwell.



You will enjoy collaborative working with service users, families and carers and understand the principles of recovery model.



A good working knowledge of professional issues including legislation such as Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) as well as the requirements of Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC).



You will be required to provide meaningful and robust supervision with staff and to work towards undertaking annual appraisals - this will include providing mentorship and preceptorship.



Starting with NELFT



NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.



Probationary Period



This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).



High-Cost Area Supplement



This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of 4,551 and a maximum payment of 5,735) (pro rata for part time staff).

The post holder will;



A minimum of one years experience working as a Nurse, preferably within a CAMHS and/or crisis setting.



To act as a leader and role model to the nursing team on a shift basis under the guidance of the Ward Manager Complete clinical audit and contribute to the governance processes. To deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence to include chairing meetings and undertaking management roles. To manage the HR systems of the Ward including staffing, sickness, performance related issues, annual leave reporting this by exception to the Ward Manager. To provide clinical and safeguarding supervision (upon completion of training) and Mentor junior staff and students. To complete 5 days of Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course which is yearly updated and implement in practice as required. To work shifts over a 365 day a year basis including night duty To undertake assessment of client's needs and support nurses in formulating appropriate individual care plans taking on a holistic approach. Ensure that relatives and carers of service user and feel able to communicate effectively with the clinical area to answer any queries or concerns. Appropriate IT skills to ensure accurate documentation and communication around a young person's care Take steps to maintain the safety and welfare of staff, patients and to the ward. Work alongside service users and carers/relatives to continually work towards improving and maintaining high standards.
