JOB TITLE: DEPUTY MANAGER - NURSING HOME
REPORTING TO:
MANAGER
JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for the implementation of high standards of evidence based nursing care, To work with the nurses and care staff, to enable the development of a team fit for purpose to deliver a quality, effective and responsive service to meet the needs of service users. To supervise, monitor and evaluate care delivered to service users, ensuring legal requirements are met.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical Support and Professional Leadership.
Provide clinical leadership to nurses in the implementation of nursing provision
Provide support and advice to the Nursing team
Identify sources of specialist support and expertise where required to support the Nurses in delivering care to individual service users.
Act as an advisor regarding clinical issues and the implementation of guidelines and standards.
Ensure that all Nurses (including self) have the clinical skills and competencies to deliver high quality evidence based care.
Management
To support the Manager in the day to day running of the home as directed by him/her.
To provide management cover in the absence of the Manager through sickness, absence or annual leave.
To be active in Recruitment and retention of staff for the home.
To participate in investigations or disciplinary procedures as required.
To support the Manager in implementing any change as directed by Burlington Care
To ensure with the manager that Staff Rota's are completed and are available for the staff at least 2 weeks in advance.
Legal, Ethical and Professional Standards
Acts at all times within NMC Code of Conduct
Maintain a current NMC registration
Be able to meet the criteria for Revalidation, maintaining a professional profile in accordance with NMC guidelines
Ensures that all Registered nurses work within a framework where Consent, accountability, duty of care, vicarious liability, record keeping, and use of clinical guidelines and protocols are maintained.
Reports unsafe, unethical practice to the Manager of the home in the first instance and to others as appropriate.
Communication:
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including competency in the use of IT equipment and systems.
Facilitate regular meetings with nurses to inform and update them on clinical and quality issues
Develop key worker and mentor relationships
Attend 'best practice' events and disseminate information
Establish and maintain effective means of communication and good relationships with service users, relatives, employees and other professionals
Assessment and Care Planning
Undertake assessments of new residents and ensure that a Short Term care plan is completed prior to admission of new residents.
Ensure that all Nurses use Evidence based assessment tools and they are completed accurately within 24 hours of a new admission and are evaluated monthly or more often as required.
Complete care plans that are person centered with the Resident and relevant others.
Liaise with other members of the Team, Health and Social care professionals to achieve the care planned and make appropriate referrals as required.
Evaluate and reviews care plans with the resident and /or advocate and all staff involved regularly (minimum of monthly) or as required and update and document accordingly.
Privacy and Dignity
Ensures that Privacy and dignity are maintained at all times, and that this is reflected in the individual care plans.
Recognise the importance of a resident's rights, acknowledging their beliefs, choices and preferences in relation to the way they wish to be supported with their care.
Creates an environment where age, religion, gender, ethnicity and sexual diversity are accepted, respected and accommodated.
Identifies and actions when equality and diversity is undermined.
Support those whose rights have been compromised and works within the MCA 2007.
Training & Development:
Ensure training and education provided meets the needs of nurses and reflects local and national objectives
Provide orientation and induction for newly appointed nurses
Participate in supervision and yearly appraisals.
Support the Nurses using Supervision to identifying any training that they need to undertake to be able to meet the criteria for Revalidation.
Be involved in implementing and cascading recommendations from Home inspections & audit reports (internal & external)
Attend mandatory training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required
