To provide clinical leadership within the nursing home, ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered in line with CQC regulations, NMC code of conduct, and internal policies. The Clinical Lead will supervise nursing practice, support the development of care teams, and act as a role model in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to residents.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership and Oversight
Lead and oversee all aspects of clinical care within the service, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Ensure nursing practice is evidence-based and aligned with current legislation, professional standards, and CQC regulations.
Provide hands-on clinical support and guidance to nurses and care teams.
Ensure safe and effective use of medication, including audits, competency assessments, and MAR accuracy.
Resident Care and Experience
Conduct clinical assessments for new residents and those with changing needs, ensuring individualised, person-centred care plans are developed.
Monitor residents' conditions, escalating concerns promptly and liaising with external professionals as appropriate.
Champion dignity, choice, and independence for all residents.
Lead on safeguarding referrals and ensure robust risk assessments are in place.
Quality and Compliance
Support the Home Manager in preparing for and responding to CQC inspections and external audits.
Participate in clinical governance activities, including audits, incident reviews, root cause analyses, and quality improvement initiatives.
Investigate and respond to complaints or clinical incidents professionally and promptly.
Team Development and Supervision
Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to registered nurses and care staff.
Conduct regular clinical competency assessments (e.g., wound care, catheter care, end-of-life care).
Support induction and ongoing training to build and maintain a skilled and confident clinical team.
Promote reflective practice and continuous professional development.
Health and Safety
Ensure infection prevention and control procedures are embedded and monitored.
Support safe manual handling, falls prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, and other clinical risk areas.
Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.
Person Specification
Essential:
NMC registered nurse (RGN/RMN/RNLD)
Proven post-registration experience in a care home or healthcare leadership role
Strong knowledge of CQC standards and clinical governance requirements
Excellent leadership, communication, and clinical decision-making skills
Competency in clinical areas such as wound care, medication management, catheter care, and end-of-life care
Desirable:
Previous experience as a Clinical Lead or Senior Nurse in a care home setting
Experience in mentoring and developing staff
Familiarity with digital care planning systems
Qualification in mentorship, leadership, or management (e.g., Level 5 Leadership in Health & Social Care)
