An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to join our medical team in Glangwilli General Hospital, Carmarthen. This can either be a fixed term or a secondment for 12 months. This role provides an opportunity for a band 6 to gain experience and develop for progression in their own self development.
This post is a Fixed Term/ Secondment until 26.06.2026 to cover maternity leave. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.
Your role will include clinical lead for the team, but also team lead including service improvement, personal development of the team, and sickness. The team includes band 6s, band 5 and occupational therapy support staff.
The wards you will cover include respiratory, cardiac and frailty, as well as patients coming through the trauma network pathway with neurological conditions.
We are an innovative, and proactive team of Occupational Therapists who work closely with the wider acute multidisciplinary team, intermediate care and the community and third sector teams striving to deliver the right support, at the right time with an ethos of home first.
As a versatile postgraduate, you will need to have a strong clinical grounding in older people rehabilitation, complex manual handling, and a good understanding of current issues affecting hospitals, intermediate care and community services.
You will need the ability and skills to work autonomously and alongside members of the team in a managerial and clinical role.
The successful applicant will provide clinical leadership, specialist expertise and supervision to Occupational Therapy staff, Therapy Assistant Practitioners, Rehabilitation Assistants/Frailty Support Workers, and students.
We are looking for an individual with great interpersonal skills to network with acute and community colleagues to co-ordinate a responsive, seamless service across pathways and sectors. You will have organisational ability and a commitment to service development by developing the evidence base for evaluation through audit, clinical effectiveness and research activity.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
