Clinical Manager of Ealing Abbey Counselling Service



Founded in 1994, EACS is an established voluntary sector provider of low-cost counselling and psychotherapy to residents (18+) of the London Borough of Ealing. Our service users typically present with a complexity of needs and can access our main 1:1 therapy service for up to one year. We support 60 + trainee placement psychotherapists/counsellors, mostly on accredited masters level courses or equivalent who are at an advanced training stage with established training providers in the humanistic tradition.

We are seeking to appoint a Clinical Manager to oversee the clinical work of EACS. Our ideal candidate will be an MSc qualified, UKCP registered integrative psychotherapist or equivalent interested in working within a voluntary sector community organisation; and who can demonstrate they have the experience, skillset and knowledge which underpin the role.

Key components of the role:



Responsibility for the clinical governance of the Service, ensuring a high quality service is delivered to clients at all stages. Day to day clinical support of placement counsellors' client queries and issues arising outside of their separate clinical supervision time - particularly concerning safeguarding issues and other areas of risk management; client complaints. Clinical support of the assessment team for the wide range of multi-faceted client presentations in assessing appropriateness for EACS placement counsellors; as well as referral and signposting where needed. First point of contact for more complex client referrals to EACS from secondary care mental health teams and other complex self-referrals. First point of contact for EACS group supervisors where concerns or issues arise with supervisees which may be clinically impacting on the client work. Working jointly with the EACS management team in recruitment and induction of assessors and group supervisors; and recruitment of counsellors on placement.

Hours:

Part-time 16 hours per week: Monday and Wednesday 9.30am to 3.30pm; Tuesday or Thursday 9.30am to 1.30pm. There is scope for minor negotiation on these times.

Salary:

FTE 43,000 - 46,000 p.a. depending on experience (19,657 - 21,000 pro rata 16 hrs hours)

The office is normally closed for 2 weeks during Christmas/New Year; 2 weeks over Easter; and the last 2 weeks of August/early September. A further 3 weeks per annum can be taken flexibly during term time and an additional long service week accrued after 5 years.

Clinical Manager of Ealing Abbey Counselling Service



CLINICAL ASSESSMENT SERVICE



Providing clinical support to the assessment team for the wide range of often challenging client presentations, including referral and signposting processes

Responding to NHS secondary care referrals and queries ('clinical pre-assessment') to assess whether or not to offer client a full face to face assessment at EACS or signpost elsewhere

Providing 'clinical pre-assessments' for other complex referrals / self-referrals

Regularly reviewing the client/counsellor availability schedule and balance of clients waiting for allocation

Undertaking occasional client assesment if/when needed.

COUNSELLORS



Providing ad hoc support to counsellors on clinical/ethical issues and ensuring BACP Ethical Framework and the Organisation's protocols are adhered to by all practitioners at EACS

Ensuring that any counsellor written communication with external agencies / GPs / psychiatrists is to an appropriate standard

Reviewing counsellor case ending summaries to ensure they meet EACS' requirements

Overseeing the Risk Register; updating as required.

SUPERVISORS



First point of contact for EACS group supervisors where concerns or issues arise with supervisees which may be clinically impacting on the client work

Chairing evening supervisor meetings 3 times a year and writing up the minutes.

JOINT WORKING - STAFF TEAM



Day to day collaboration and in weekly team meetings with the Director and Counsellor Placement Manager on matters arising for discussion from all three roles and on actions that follow from this

Regular liaison with the Assessment Bookings Coordinator in support of this role, particularly complex clinical pre-assessments

Where issues arise, corresponding with and meeting as appropriate with placement counsellors; service-users or supervisors with support from the Director or Counsellor Placement Manager as appropriate

Regularly reviewing the usability of EACS' clinical evaluation tool (CORE Net) using CORE 34; GAD7 & PHQ9 with the administrators; counsellor placement manager and Director as appropriate

Coordinating termly meetings with assessment team alongside the Director and writing up the minutes

Recruitment of new supervisors and new assessors and induction in conjunction with the Director

Partaking in counsellor recruitment alongside the Counsellor Placement Manager and Director; and counsellor induction on EACS policies and protocols in conjunction with the Director

Collaboration with Director around any gaps in provision and initiatives that may follow from this.

INTERNAL PROJECTS



Supporting EACS' in-house trauma-related psycho-educational group/s and EMDR work

Where capacity / resources allow, support the development of other in-house clinical / psycho-educational or wellbeing initiatives in response to identified gaps in provision.

EXTERNAL AGENCIES



Representing EACS at meetings/ forums with external agencies such as the Talking Therapies Network.

TELEPHONE



Sharing holiday cover with other staff members for Assessment Bookings Co-ordinator.

OTHER DUTIES ad hoc / occasional



Holiday or sickness cover for other staff members as needed

Arranging speakers for in-house bi annual CPD seminar / workshops

Other tasks as may be reasonably required.

OUTSIDE OF CORE OFFICE HOURS



Assistance at bi-annual in-house seminars/workshops

Assistance with EACS Christmas party / any other events - preparation, during, clearing up afterwards

Chairing evening two-hour supervisor meetings three times a year (normally 2 Friday evenings and one weekday evening).
