We are delighted to offer a dynamic opportunity for a Band 6 Clinical Practice Educator to join our expanding and innovative team within Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.



This permanent post will play a vital role in delivering clinical education, through cross site working across our Operating Theatres (BRI), Surgical Wards 20, 21 & 11, Pre-Assessment Unit, and the soon to be launched state-of-the-art St. Luke's Day Case Unit (approximately 1 day per month) , which received 18 million in investment to enhance elective surgery provision across the region. The post will contribute to the support of, and line manage our expanding apprentice Operating Department Practitioner programme, in collaboration with the University of Bolton and we have recently welcomed Trainee Nurse Associate Hub placements within the department. In addition to our Apprentice Operating Department Practitioners, we also facilitate a direct entry student population of both ODPs and Nurses (around 15 per year). The post holder will promote clinical excellence in the speciality and the Department whilst maintaining own clinical competence; working clinically 25% and non-clinically 75% of the time respectively.



Develop and deliver engaging, inclusive education packages across varied clinical settings based on the identified learning needs of each department. Plan, Prepare and facilitate half day teaching sessions to meet the training and educational needs of the workforce. Create, maintain, and update accurate records and databases to accurately record and reflect the current learning needs and compliance. Effectively communicate with external stakeholders, such as reps and university faculties to provide effective training and support to the workforce. Support induction, preceptorship and clinical competence for new starters. Provide both Pastoral support and manage difficult conversations effectively to support students and staff within the departments. Lead training sessions including simulation and in situ-based education (tea trolley). Coach and mentor students and staff, enhancing confidence and safe practice. Manage students and Apprentices, including allocating Assessors, shifts and learning opportunities to meet the needs of their training. Help embed a culture of continuous learning, patient safety and quality improvement. Manage your workload effectively allowing you to commit to one clinical shift per week, including working in a role within theatre, or coordinating a department.

What we are looking for



We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and passionate about clinical education. You should have:



A degree level qualification (or working towards) in Nursing or as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), with active registration (NMC/HCPC). A teaching/mentorship qualification (e.g., SLIP, Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor). Evidence of extensive clinical experience in theatres/pre and postoperative care. Evidence of regularly supporting students/learners as an assessor in a theatre setting. Strong communication and presentation skills including via email and via video chat. An ability to lead small projects and work collaboratively across teams. Confidence in delivering education in both classroom and clinical settings. The IT skills required to maintain spreadsheets, create digital teaching materials, including PowerPoints and the ability to access and interact with multiple university platforms for student learning. The ability to commit to one clinical shift per week to maintain relevance and visibility. The ability to provide small bitesize training and supervision sessions to small groups within clinical areas.
