The Position

At Novo Nordisk Digital, Data & IT (DD&IT), the digital journey is on, as we are aiming to unlock the full potential of digitalization, data, and IT.

As our Cloud Engineer, you will be working in a fast-paced and agile environment where we are laying the foundation to create high value and innovative data products.

You will be working on various projects, each tailored to specific business use cases that have a variety of different problem spaces within the digital and pharmaceutical domains. Your responsibility also includes building strong relationships with key stakeholders while providing value-driving and innovative solutions from the ground up and explore new technologies/tools to apply during the development of these solutions.

We offer you the opportunity to work with:

  • Helping to drive optimization, testing and tooling to deliver stable applications and improve data quality and using best practices in continuous integration and delivery.
  • Collaborating with various stakeholders in R&ED (Lab Technicians, Scientist, and other subject matter experts) and in the digital sector (Software Engineers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Domain Architects, etc.)
  • Building scalable batch and streaming data processing system and using enterprise tools and other components that make up our data ecosystem.
  • Supporting data consumers in business intelligence with building dashboards and generating reports for critical business processes.
  • Designing and Setup infrastructure for large scale Data sets in terabytes and beyond as well as deploying and maintaining Code as Infrastructure in Cloud using different platforms e.g., Azure DevOps.
As this is a new job type within DD&IT Oxford it comes with great flexibility for experimentation with new technology and you can look forward to playing a key role in shaping the future data foundation in DD&IT Oxford.

For this role we\'re searching for two people to join the team. We offer a hybrid working model with 3 fixed days in our Oxford Office and 2 days from home.

Qualifications

For the role it is essential to have a detailed-oriented mindset with excellent documentation skills together with the ability to influence, communicate, and collaborate across an organization. You are a proactive team player that naturally builds relations with colleagues and stakeholders in the organization. You can communicate complex technical matters to a variety of stakeholders with different levels of technical expertise. Finally, you find it easy to evaluate issues and then develop solutions that are both creative and effective for our organization. You enjoy working in an informal atmosphere where flexibility and responsibility go hand in hand as well as working in adynamic team environment.

Moreover, you have:
  • Worked with range of cloud services for storage, networking, data ingestion, data transformation and (serverless) application development (We focus on AWS, but also use Azure)
  • Delivered solutions using an infrastructure as code approach, utilising common frameworks such as Azure DevOps or other similar tool sets.
  • Familiarity with SQL and databases
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python
  • Understanding and experience in setting up Containerize Solution e.g., using Docker and Singularity
  • Knowledge about data modelling and data storage techniques
  • Interest for cultural frameworks like Agile, DevOps, and DataOps.
About the Department

The position is anchored in our IT & Data Insight department located in the heart of the University of Oxford medical campus. The department currently consists of 7 IT and Data specialists and is building up additional capabilities and capacity. We are part of NovoNordisk\'s Research & Early Development (R&ED) family, and we focus on bridging computer science and life science research by developing, implementing, and operating software applications. The IT & Data Insight department is responsible for developing the Data Foundation capabilities and it enables our customers across the business to accelerate delivery of various strategic initiatives. Additionally, we support our In-Silico and In-Vitro needs and provide IT infrastructure in close collaboration with the global DD&IT organisation and product teams.
