We're a creative workshop specializing in the design and fabrication of custom event props, immersive sets, and large-scale installations. From experiential brand activations to film and stage environments, we bring bold ideas to life through expert craftsmanship and rapid, high-quality production. We're now seeking a CNC machinist & CAD Designer to join us on a zero-hours contract - with the potential to grow into a full-time role for the right person.
The Role:
You'll be the bridge between design and production - turning concepts and sketches into clean, cut-ready files and operating CNC machinery to fabricate wooden components for props, scenic elements, and structural builds. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, creative environment and understands both the artistic and technical side of set/prop work.
Key Responsibilities:
Create and adjust CAD drawings for CNC routing based on project briefs or design files
Set up, operate, and maintain CNC machines (wood-based materials: MDF, ply, softwood, etc.)
Generate clean toolpaths and ensure efficient material usage
Read and interpret drawings, sketches, and 3D concepts for physical build translation
Work closely with workshop and design teams to deliver on tight turnarounds
Quality check parts for accuracy, fit, and finish
Organize and maintain digital files, tools, and CNC workstation
What We're Looking For:
Strong experience operating CNC routers in a workshop or scenic production setting
Proficiency in assembling and fabricating components accurately.
Experience with materials handling practices in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency with CAD software (Fusion 360, SketchUp, AutoCAD, or VCarve)
Understanding of wood materials used in prop/set fabrication
Ability to translate creative ideas into practical build files
Keen eye for detail, scale, and proportion
Adaptable, collaborative, and capable of working under time pressure
Bonus Points For:
Experience in the events, theatre, or film set industry
CAM skills and familiarity with toolpath generation
Workshop skills beyond CNC (assembly, finishing, painting, etc.)
Problem-solving on-site installs or builds
Join us as a CNC Machinist, where your skills will contribute significantly to our manufacturing success while being part of a supportive team environment focused on excellence in production quality.
