Job Purpose:

To set and operate CNC machines (DMU 5-axis, HAAS, and Hurco) efficiently and accurately, ensuring high-quality production of precision components. Programming capability is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Machine Setup & Operation

Set up CNC machines including DMU 5-axis (Heidenhain), HAAS, and Hurco. Load tooling and fixtures according to job specifications. Operate machines to produce components to drawing and quality standards. Perform first-off inspections and make necessary adjustments.

Quality Assurance

Ensure all parts meet dimensional and surface finish requirements. Use measuring equipment (e.g., micrometers, verniers, CMM if applicable). Identify and report non-conformance and assist in root cause analysis.

Efficiency & Productivity

Minimise downtime through proactive setup and changeover planning. Monitor cycle times and suggest improvements where possible. Maintain accurate records of production and machine usage.

Maintenance & Housekeeping

Perform routine machine checks and basic maintenance. Keep work area clean, organised, and compliant with safety standards.

Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with team leaders, programmers, and quality inspectors. Communicate issues clearly and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

Proven experience setting and operating CNC machines (DMU, HAAS, Hurco). Familiarity with Heidenhain controls (essential). Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD data. Basic understanding of CNC programming (desirable). Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Good problem-solving and communication skills.

Qualifications:

NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or CNC Machining. Apprenticeship-trained or equivalent hands-on experience.

Pay: 15.50-16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 38 per week
