The CNC Operative is responsible for operating CNC machinery safely and efficiently to manufacture high-quality, precision joinery components. The role involves reading technical drawings, setting up machines, and working collaboratively with the production team to ensure daily output targets are achieved while maintaining the company's high standards.
The CNC Operative contributes directly to the success of the production department by ensuring components are produced to the correct specification, on time, and in full.
Key Responsibilities
Operate CNC machinery to produce timber components according to technical drawings and specifications.
Set up and adjust machinery to ensure correct operation and accurate output.
Perform quality checks on all work to ensure compliance with design and production standards.
Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area in line with Health & Safety procedures.
Identify and report machine faults or material issues promptly to minimise downtime.
Communicate effectively with the CNC Team Leader and Senior CNC Programmer to support workflow and address any production challenges.
Assist with loading and unloading materials as required.
Carry out minor machine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication and part replacement.
Follow work instructions and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
Complete all necessary documentation, including time logs, job sheets and quality records.
Support other departments and assist in any other duties as required to meet production and business needs.
Key Requirements
Essential
Previous experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing or production environment
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
Good attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
Reliable, punctual and committed to working as part of a team
Basic knowledge of Health & Safety procedures in a workshop environment
Strong work ethic with the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
Flexible approach and willingness to support the wider team as required
Desirable
Experience working in wood-based manufacturing
Familiarity with CNC programming or editing code (e.g., using Solidworks or Maestro software)
Experience using edge banders, panel saws, or other woodworking machinery
Valid forklift licence
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
