This role involves developing, testing, and optimizing CNC programs for complex, high-precision aerospace components, including 5 Axis Machining to
mill-turn operations
. The ideal candidate will have expertise in programming multi-axis CNC machines using preferred
Edgecam
and/or
Alphacam
, and a strong understanding of aerospace-grade materials and industry standards.
The majority of machining work will involve aluminium components
, requiring precision and efficiency in programming and tooling strategies.
Key responsibilities:
Create and optimize CNC programs using
Edgecam
and/or
Alphacam
for 3, 4, and 5-axis machining centres, including
mill-turn machines
.
Develop efficient machining strategies for
aluminium aerospace components
, focusing on cycle time reduction and surface finish quality.
Interpret complex engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications.
Simulate
VERICUT
and verify tool paths to ensure accuracy, prevent collisions, and optimize performance.
Select appropriate tooling, cutting parameters, and fixtures for aluminium and other aerospace materials such as titanium and Inconel.
Program both milling and turning operations in a single setup using mill-turn technology.
Recommend process improvements, tooling upgrades, and machining techniques to enhance productivity and quality.
Support continuous improvement initiatives including lean manufacturing and waste reduction.
Ensure all CNC programs and machining processes comply with
AS9100
,
ISO 9001
, and other aerospace quality standards.
Maintain accurate documentation for CNC programs, setup sheets, and revision histories.
Participate in First Article Inspections (FAI) and support internal and external audits.
Work closely with Quality Assurance to resolve dimensional and surface finish issues.
Provide technical support to CNC operators during setup and production runs.
Train and mentor machinists on new programs, tooling, and best practices.
Liaise with engineering and production teams to ensure alignment on design intent and manufacturing capabilities.
