Are you passionate about the coast?
We're looking for a Coastal Survey Assistant at the Regional Coastal Monitoring Programme to support our fieldwork and data collection along the Kent and Sussex coastline. If you are an enthusiastic, technically minded person then this could be the role for you!
This is a fantastic fixed term opportunity until 26th June 2026 to gain hands-on experience in coastal monitoring whilst working as part of a dedicated survey team, based in Whitstable Harbour.
You'll work within a small, supportive team to undertake surveys with high-precision GPS equipment along our coastline, between Isle of Grain and Rye Harbour.
You'll support the team with processing and GIS analysis of data, to provide detailed insights on shoreline change, erosion, sediment transport and coastal morphology to support the sustainable management of our beaches and shoreline assets. The high-quality data underpins our approach to shoreline management, flood risk reduction and climate adaption.
Your vital work will directly support the resilience of our coastal communities and the sustainable future of our invaluable coastal environments.
With funding granted by central government, Canterbury City Council is in partnership with other maritime district councils, the county council and the Environment Agency to manage and organise the programme.
