Position Overview:
Reporting to the Group Legal Director and Company Secretary this position requires a high level of discretion, analytical precision, and strategic insight to support complex legal functions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent drafting skills, an ability to manage competing priorities under pressure, and the judgment to navigate sensitive corporate matters with professionalism and tact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Services:
Review and update the contracts with employed advisors, self-employed advisors and business partners to ensure compliance with the FCA regime, and changes in the commercial terms.
Manage the legal aspects of the relationships with the owners of the mortgage networks.
Advice on disputes and disagreements with self-employed advisors and business partners.
2. Commercial and Franchising:
Participate in the negotiation of contracts as well as suggesting structures and appropriate commercial terms.
Produce and develop precedents to assist the negotiation of contracts which often involve supplies to the franchised/licensed network.
Review and update the franchise/licence agreements and associated documents to ensure compliance with changes in the law, changes in the commercial terms impacting all franchisees/licensees.
Advise on the renewal of franchise agreements.
Advise on breaches of franchise/licence agreements, prepare documentation and support resolution.
Advise on disputes and disagreements with franchisees/licensees.
Ensure that guidelines and policies referred to in the franchise agreements are updated and that any communications with the network are compliant.
3. Company Secretary:
Assist the Company Secretary with company secretarial matters including the preparation and submission of regulatory filings to Companies House.
Qualifications/ Requirements
Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with 2-3 year of post qualification experience.
Financial services experience essential. Experience of working in a franchised business is highly regarded.
Strong communicator
Demonstrable experience of negotiating commercial agreements.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Detailed and analytical approach.
A positive "can do" attitude and a supportive team player.
Proactive self-starter with strong problem-solving skills.
Location
The Old Courthouse, 60a London Road, Grantham, NG31 6HR. The role is office-based with a minimum of one day at home.
