About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Commercial Apprentice to join the Powertherm team. To complement and strengthen our existing commercial function, this role offers an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or develop a career in commercial management within the industrial construction and contracting sector.
This role will support the Commercial Manager, Estimator, and project teams with day-to-day commercial, estimating, and administrative activities. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to gain hands-on experience, structured training, and exposure to live projects and tenders in a supportive environment.
A typical day in your role as a Commercial Apprentice will involve:
Carrying out general commercial administration for allocated projects under supervision
Producing and maintaining contract files to ensure information is accessible and audit-ready
Assisting with processing project conversions and updating internal systems
Supporting the preparation of payment applications and gathering supporting documentation
Helping to compile variation information and basic cost summaries
Assisting with ensuring invoices are submitted on time and in line with contract requirements
Supporting Contract Managers and Project Managers with day-to-day commercial tasks
Assisting with checking contract costings and highlighting simple corrections where required
Liaising with internal departments such as finance and planning to gather required information
Providing basic estimating support, including gathering supplier quotes and checking material and labour rates
Supporting the estimating team with tender documentation, uploads, and information requests
Assisting with tender handovers to the commercial team, ensuring key information is captured and recorded
We are looking for someone who:
Is organised and able to manage administrative tasks accurately
Has a good eye for detail and can present information clearly
Has good written and verbal communication skills
Has an interest in commercial, estimating, or construction-related work and is keen to learn
Is willing to take direction and develop new skills
Can work well as part of a team and is also able to use initiative when supported
Is motivated, reliable, and able to work in a busy environment
It would be desirable if you have the following:
Basic knowledge of Excel or a willingness to learn and develop skills during the apprenticeship
The role is full time, based on paid 37.5 hours per week and it is based at Head Office in Sheffield. A full UK driving licence is required, and some travel and overnight stays may be necessary. The salary for this role will be in line with the National Minimum Wage for apprentices.
