Future Commercial Financial Manager

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity in an exciting role, focused on supporting one of the largest Retail Transformation programmes in Europe? This key Commercial Finance role is at the forefront of Asda\'s separation programme (\xe2\x80\x9cFuture\xe2\x80\x9d) from Walmart, helping to provide the Programme Directors with commercial insight to make critical decisions. The role encompasses crucial Finance Business Partnering of multiple Programme Directors and their teams, as well as the wider Future Programme Leadership team. The role is at the heart of making key decisions and helping the business on its journey to deploy all its own systems and processes, which is a key enabler to deliver its ambition of #2 in Grocery.

About the role:

This Commercial Finance Manager role supports the delivery of Asda\'s ~\xc2\xa3500m Future Programme through strong business partnering, financial control, forecasting accuracy, vendor/programme management and governance support at Asda\'s Exec Board level.

As a Commercial Finance Manager within the wider Customer & Business Development team, you will directly business partner 3 Future Programme Directors and their teams, to support critical investment / programme decisions, providing key insight and commercial context.

The Future Programme is responsible for completing full separation from Walmart, including working with a group of core vendors to design, build and deploy our new systems to run every part of the organisation and implement new processes to run the business across all functions.

The ins and outs:

  • This role leads the business partnering, P&L and Capital management and forecasting for 3 of the 8 Future Programmes with a total spend of over \xc2\xa3100m
  • You will be required to challenge performance and work closely with key finance / programme stakeholders to improve accuracy to support better decision making
  • You will play a key support role in the investment approval process, by liaising and challenging teams to produce high quality investment papers that maximise commercial performance and support the approval governance at the exec level, providing exposure to senior board members
  • The successful candidate will work with stakeholders across the wider Future Programme, such as the Transformation Office, Technology Teams and People Teams alongside other Asda teams such as Legal and the wider Finance team.
  • You will be responsible for challenging senior stakeholders to prioritise and control programme spend / resources, through regular commercial finance reviews with the Programme Leads and escalating the key commercial decisions, risks and opportunities to the Asda Exec through the established governance process.
  • You will work with the programmes / functions to understand, quantify and drive the realisation of the commercial benefits from landing the new systems, processes and operating models within the business.
What you\'ll need:
  • Strong commercial skill set and critical thinking, with the ability to evaluate commercial performance, identify risks and opportunities and support clear and robust plans.
  • Strong organisational skills to lead the commercial finance agenda across multiple programmes, including the forecast process, driving efficiencies and improving financial control.
  • Ability to provide accurate, timely information to a high quality with attention to detail
  • Drive to be a \'self-starter\' who looks to set direction and take ownership of complex issues to drive the right actions
  • Confidence to challenge and influence stakeholders at senior levels of the organisation
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish professional, credible relations with both finance and non-finance colleagues, as well as great communication skills to ensure information is clearly articulated
  • Strong Excel, PowerPoint and analytical tool skills to support data-driven decisions
  • Applicants should be a graduate (or equivalent) with strong academics and a professional accounting qualification with 2+ years post qualified experience
