Overview


We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Commercial Property Compliance Officer to ensure that our properties adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role is crucial in maintaining compliance with Fair Housing regulations, landlord-tenant law, and various housing programs such as LIHTC and Section 8. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills and a thorough understanding of property management practices.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organised Compliance & Management Officer to join our Commercial Property Management department. This role is crucial in ensuring that our business and the properties we manage meet all legal, regulatory, and industry requirements. You will take ownership of compliance systems, policies, and audits, ensuring we operate to the highest professional standards.

Working hours



Working hours of 10 hours a week can be flexible to suit your needs.

Salary



Salary is 8,000 - 12,000 per year depending on experience for working one day a week.

Key Responsibilities:



Regulatory & Statutory Compliance



1. Oversee compliance with all health & safety legislation (Health & Safety at Work Act, Fire Safety, Asbestos, Electricity at Work, Gas Safety, Legionella, LOLER, Equality Act).

2. Maintain statutory records including fire risk assessments, asbestos registers, lift inspections, gas/electrical certificates, legionella reports.

3. Monitor environmental and energy compliance, including EPCs and MEES.

Landlord & Tenant Compliance



1. Monitor leases for landlord/tenant obligations.

2. Oversee service charge compliance in line with the RICS Service Charge Code.

3. Ensure insurance cover (buildings, terrorism, public liability) is in place and valid.

Contractor & Supplier Compliance



1. Manage contractor approval processes (insurance, health & safety, accreditations).

2. Maintain contractor risk assessments and method statements.

3. Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations on major works.

Data Protection & AML



1. Ensure GDPR compliance, including privacy notices, retention schedules, and data handling practices.

2. Conduct Anti-Money Laundering checks on landlords, tenants, and significant transactions.

3. Oversee client money compliance, including reconciliations and separate client accounts.

Industry & RICS Standards



1. Ensure compliance with RICS/ARLA regulations.

2. Maintain Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) cover.

3. Assist with complaints handling procedures in line with professional standards.

Building Operations & Facilities



1. Maintain Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) schedules.

2. Ensure statutory testing logs are complete and accessible.

3. Monitor sustainability obligations and reporting where required.

Financial & Reporting



1. Produce compliance reports for senior management and auditors.

2. Support annual audits and inspections.

Skills & Experience



1. Proven experience in commercial compliance and property management

2. Strong knowledge of UK commercial property regulations and landlord/tenant law.

3. Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills.

4. Confident with compliance software, property management systems, and MS Office.

5. Strong communication skills with landlords, tenants, contractors, and regulators.

6. Relevant qualifications (RICS, NEBOSH, IOSH) desirable.
