We are seeking a Commis chef, to join our team of 4 in our family run village Inn. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation and a keen interest in the hospitality industry.
We are very interested in finding a person that will fit well into our team. The Red Lion is unique in its workforce, we have built our team based on personality being as important as your skill set. For this reason, we would be pleased to take on a chef, capable of any level & pay according to experience. A friendly working environment is very important to us all. The Red Lion Inn is situated in the village of Broadclyst, roughly 6 miles from Exeter City centre & 6 miles from Cullompton, it is on a good bus route.
Hours of work will be 35 to 45 hrs per week spread over 4 to 5 days.
The Red Lion is a thriving, lovely, family-owned village Inn. Over the past 11 years we have built a strong customer base which is steadily growing. Our food reputation is excellent, we make everything from scratch and use local & seasonal produce as much as we can. We keep the menu tight but interesting, a mix of pub classics & restaurant dishes. We stop serving at 9pm & generally the chefs leave work at 9.00 to 9.30 at the latest.
We are keen to promote a healthy work/life balance. We ensure a minimum of 3 nights off a week with no split shifts.
We close on Christmas day to enable all the staff to enjoy Christmas at home.

Pay: 10.00-12.21 per hour plus service charge of 2 to 3 per hour
Responsibilities
- Assist the kitchen staff in food production and preparation
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen area
- Learn to run starter section & second.
- Ensure adherence to food safety regulations and hygiene standards
- Assist in managing inventory and stock control
- Collaborate with the team to deliver high-quality dishes efficiently
Experience
- Previous experience kitchen experience.
- Knowledge of food safety practices.
- Ability to work well within a team environment
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with colleagues
- Enthusiasm to learn and grow within the culinary field
