We are looking for a Commis Chef/Kitchen Assistant to work within our busy island hotel. Come and work with our experienced, friendly and highly skilled kitchen team and experience life on the beautiful island of Iona.

The Argyll Hotel is a 17 bedroom hotel and restaurant located off the West Coast of Scotland on the island of Iona. Iona is a very popular holiday destination with tourists being attracted by its beautiful beaches, outstanding views and ancient abbey. Both the hotel and restaurant are highly regarded and consequently the kitchen is extremely busy during the season.

The kitchen prides itself on working with local ingredients which also includes using the fresh organic produce from the hotel garden.

We currently have a vacancy for a Commis Chef/Kitchen Assistant, with a start date of 12th March and finishing on 29th October.

The position involves working 5 days out of 7 in the kitchen.

The ideal candidate will be punctual, hardworking and conscientious. They will be a strong team player, have an excellent eye for detail and be able to work under their own initiative when required.

As a Commis chef they should have experience of prep work with fresh meat, fish and vegetables, basic pastry work, larder and service with a view to further developing their own skills.

As a Kitchen Assistant their main duties will include maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, scullery work, basic food preparation and service (lunches and dinner dessert plating).

This position would suit somebody who is looking to break into and progress in the industry. There is also a chance of job progression for the right candidate.

It would also suit somebody looking for backpacker work as it provides a fantastic opportunity to save for future travels.

The rate of pay will be 14.00 per hour as well as a share of tips (averaged over 300 per month last year (not guaranteed)).

Accommodation & meals can be provided with a deduction made from wages to cover the cost.
