We are seeking an experienced and driven Commissioning Editor to join our dynamic publishing team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping our content strategy by identifying and developing high-quality manuscripts and digital products. You will be responsible for commissioning new works across diverse subject areas, maintaining strong relationships with established and emerging authors, and overseeing projects from initial proposal through to publication. Your keen editorial eye, commercial awareness, and passion for compelling content will be essential as you assess proposals, negotiate contracts, and ensure the timely delivery of projects that align with our publishing goals.
To succeed in this role, you will have proven experience in commissioning or acquisitions, preferably within academic, educational, or trade publishing. Strong project management skills are vital, as you will coordinate with authors, reviewers, and internal teams to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met. You should be adept at conducting market research to identify trends and gaps, using this insight to inform commissioning decisions and contribute to the development of our publishing program. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are required, as you will present proposals, represent the company at industry events, and collaborate closely with colleagues across editorial, production, and marketing. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required; an advanced degree is advantageous.
