Job Description


An amazing opportunity has opened up in the editorial team of a successful publisher of books, journals and digital content for the international legal community, and we are working on a Commissioning Editor vacancy to join their team.

This new role will work on the development and growth of their publishing programme, managing own lists and spotting gaps and new topics to commission original content.

Key responsibilities:

  • Commissioning leading authors on key publication areas, developing publishing proposals and presenting during internal editorial meetings
  • Managing the entire commissioning process for own lists, tracking manuscripts from submission through to publication and supporting the editorial process with tasks such as manuscript review
  • Working closely with authors, building long-lasting relationships and ensuring authors receive excellent care and support
  • Evaluating existing lists to identity possible gaps and additional relevant topics for publication
  • Overseeing budget and managing financial profitability
Our client is looking for strong commercial sense to be able to spot opportunities and grow a profitable list, together with good understanding of the commissioning process and editorial workflow of print and digital publications. Some knowledge of the legal landscape would be advantageous, to be able to commission new relevant content.
