Job Description


The Communications Assistant will support the Communications and Marketing Manager with digital communications and marketing campaigns for the department. The role will concentrate on communications to current students in house, prospect students and external guests for our commercial business.

The post holder will use their creative skills to create impactful content to tell great stories as well as impart key information. Content produced will be delivered across our social media channels, website and print materials.

The successful candidate will also monitor team inboxes to ensure enquiries are triaged to the right place and responded to in a timely and professional manner. They will provide administrative support to the management team as required.

The successful candidate will be an organised, enthusiastic and hard-working team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will also be digitally savvy, have excellent IT knowledge and skills. Excellent command of English plus meticulous attention to detail is essential, as are good researching skills.

About you

Specialist Knowledge/ Qualifications

  • Able to write great copy for websites and social media
  • Managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • IT skills including the full Microsoft Office package and basic Adobe Suite competency
  • Knowledge of social media monitoring and publishing tools e.g. Social Studio or ability to learn
  • Knowledgeable about our business and passionate about our purpose and values
  • Degree in a Communications /Writing/ Content related subject or relevant equivalent experience
Relevant Experience
  • Generating effective communication messages
  • Creating content in a variety of formats including film / video
  • Experience of using a CMS or intranet
  • Experience of digital communication/ social media communications
  • Creating relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Delivering high-quality and visually impactful communication materials
Communication skills
  • Excellent organisational, planning and project management skills, with the ability to think ahead, prioritise and work flexibly and accurately when under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent ability to write in plain English
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships
  • Communicates effectively orally and in writing adapting the message for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way
Creativity, innovation and problem solving
  • Creative with a good eye for what makes something visually appealing and impactful
  • Expertise in film editing processes would be welcomed
  • Good knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator, PhotoShop or other design and video editing packages would be an advantage
