Communications Supervisor
Salary:
The starting salary is 38,926, which includes allowances totalling 2,928.
The salary is broken down as 35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale 38,523 Plus, a location allowance of 1,928, a non-pensionable allowance of 1,000 and 20% shift disturbance allowance (15% during training).

The training period will be 14 weeks, annual leave is not permitted during the 14 week training course.
Met Command and Control (MetCC) provides London with its police response service, handling some 13,000 emergency and non-emergency phone calls and 12,000 interactions via our digital platforms 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Specialist police communications support is also provided for some 500 large-scale public events that take place across the capital each year. Naturally, this means we have a fast-paced dynamic environment, where no two days will be the same.
A Communications Supervisor working across the operational floors will ensure that our people are well-led, equipped and supported, championing difference and diversity of thought to create an environment to thrive in order to serve the public.
A Communications Supervisor will be responsible for driving performance; maintaining a culture of learning and development, focusing on professionalism, welfare and attendance, to improve the organisational overall efficiency and effectiveness in providing a response to the public.
A communications supervisor will have direct line management of a team within their designated centre within First contact/Despatch and will report to an operational Duty Officer.
Successful applicants will be expected to manage escalations, implement decision making and manage and support their teams within an ever-changing operational environment, putting the public at the fore.
Key Responsibilities:
Managing and developing a team of Police Officers and Police Staff including colleague welfare, performance, attendance management and professional standards
Supporting operational colleagues across all teams, with enquires around grading of calls, incident handling and identifying appropriate resources. This includes an effective hand-over during shift changeover
Monitoring compliance, complaint handling, evidence provision and misconduct
Identifying Risk, Harm, Opportunity and Threat, ensuring incidents are being managed / re-graded and compliant.
Adapting to changing situations and make sound and justifiable operational decisions to ensure the safety of colleagues, the public and the Communities within
Manage Borough Command Unit (BCU) resources, through regular liaison with BCU Operations Manager, including scheduled daily meetings to identify resourcing and staffing issues.
Support the MetCC Duty Officer in their decision making and managing operational needs
Ensure compliance with and correct closure of incident records.
Assist in the implementation and management of Business Continuity and other critical technology failure when required.

Essential For The Role
Essential Criteria:
Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role, with the ability to effectively manage and support colleagues in busy operational or customer-focused environments.
Strong customer service orientation with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High level of attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and professional when under pressure.
Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing demands, and work flexibly to meet operational needs.
Strong leadership and adaptable communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies, and internal department
Experience of working in fast-paced environments requiring coordination of multiple activities simultaneously.
Willingness to work across different operational areas (First Contact, Despatch and wider London-based environments) and develop multi-functional skills within a two-year period.
Flexibility to adapt to changes in team location, shift patterns and working rosters as required.
Commitment to ongoing professional development
Desired Criteria:
Knowledge of call-handling and despatch systems, or similar operational software.
Understanding of relevant service standards, classification systems or quality frameworks (e.g. NSIR, NCRS, HOCR, or equivalent).
Experience of delivering coaching, mentoring or staff development.
Familiarity with organisational policies, Knowledge of Police Officer and Police Staff Policies and Regulations.
