Newport City Council is recruiting to a full time Community Connector post within Prevention & Inclusion in social services based at Civic Centre. The post is fixed term until 31st March 2026 with a view to extending the role for a further year, depending on grant funding. The council offers flexible working. Post is based at Alway and Gaer community centres during weekdays between 9am and 5pm. Weekends and evenings not required.
The purpose of the role is to provide information, advice and assistance to people aged 16+ who are vulnerable or isolated. These individuals may require engagement and support to improve independent living and tackle social isolation.
The successful candidate will work closely with health and social care services, voluntary sector partners and community groups. You will work on a 1:1 basis with individuals, providing face-to-face advice as well as on the telephone, by email or post. Duty work is also part of this role. Occasionally you will also be required to conduct home visits and attend community groups or public events in the Newport area. The team also supports unpaid carers.
Full training provided, however you will require experience of working within health and social care, wellbeing, education or a community development setting. You will be experienced in giving information and advice and engaging with vulnerable adults of all ages. You will be committed to the prevention and early intervention agenda and have knowledge of the Social Services Wellbeing Wales Act (2014).

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
