Job Summary:



Our Community Outreach and Engagement Officers, play a pivotal role in fostering strong relationships between Age UK Barnsley and the local community. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and implement initiatives that connect people with our programs, services, and mission. You will act as a bridge to ensure that the organisation remains attuned to community needs, promoting inclusivity and active participation.

Responsibilities:



Develop and execute outreach and engagement activities with diverse community groups, organisations, and stakeholders. Build and maintain partnerships with local organisations, schools, businesses, partners and local groups to promote Age UK Barnsley initiatives. Organise and participate in community events, workshops, and forums to raise awareness of Age UK Barnsley mission, activities and services. Conduct needs assessments and gather feedback from the community to inform programme development and service delivery. Represent Age UK Barnsley in public forums, meetings, and events as a trusted ambassador. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of outreach activities in line with contractual requirements and prepare/present detailed reports. Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages community members to participate in and benefit from the Age UK Barnsley activities, programmes and services. Work collaboratively with internal teams to align outreach efforts with organisational goals and to provide cover for colleagues as appropriate and required.

Other Duties:



Provide information and referrals to older adults regarding available community resources and services. Advocate for the needs and concerns of older adults to local government officials and community organisations. To undertake other duties as required in accordance with Age UK Barnsley's Mission, Policies and Procedures.

Requirements:

Problem-Solving Abilities : Ability to identify issues and implement solutions to improve service delivery. Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to engage with service users, staff, and stakeholders. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and service requirements Experience in organising own work to achieve individual goals. Experience of working hard to contribute to team goals. Proven experience in community engagement, outreach, or a related field. Proficiency in using digital tools and social media for community engagement. Demonstrable cultural competence, and a genuine passion for supporting and empowering communities. Integrity: High ethical standards Adaptability: Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and challenges. Empathy: A genuine concern for the well-being of staff and stakeholders, promoting a supportive and inclusive work environment.

Education:



Educated to GCSE level (to include GCSE passes at grade 4 / 5 or above in English and Maths). Willingness to undertake training and continuing development.

Additional Requirements:



This role may require occasional evening and weekend work to attend community events. Travel within Barnsley and surrounding areas as necessary. A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation may be required for travel to various outreach locations.

Fixed Term Contract

initially for 18 months with the potential to be extended subject to funding.
