JOB PARTICULARS: Community Transport Driver - 35 Hours per week



Monday-Friday with some weekend work

INTRODUCTION



Our community drivers offer a person-centred service that supports everyone in the community to get to where they need to go. If you are looking for a rewarding role that has a real impact on people's lives then this could be the job for you.

HcL Community Transport Services began over 40 years ago in 1982 and is a registered charity that helps people in the Lothians stay connected. Our adapted vehicles operate all year-round supporting people with a range of disabilities and long-term health conditions to get out and about. The vehicles used, have been specially adapted to carry combinations of wheelchair users and other passengers safely and comfortably.

We run a number of services across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Dial-A-Ride

provides a door-through-door transport service journeys are to wherever the passenger wants to go - to medical appointments, meet friends, to church, visits to family, to the shops, cinema or theatre, to Waverley or Edinburgh Airport etc. We also respond to requests for journeys nationally on an availability basis.

Dial-A-Bus

provides transport from home to local shopping centres/large supermarkets. The service operates at least once a week Monday-Friday from most areas in West Lothian.

Local Bus Services

- we operate a Community Bus service in Broxburn & Uphall.

Community Group Transport -

we also provide transport for other community organisations for groups and events.

BASE



You will be based at our Bathgate Depot: 17a Inchmuir Road, Whitehill Industrial Estate, Bathgate, EH48 2EP.

ACCOUNTABILITY



To the Assistant Operations Manager.

DRIVING DUTIES



To drive HcL adapted vehicles as required.

To provide any necessary assistance for passengers before, during, or after travel, supporting their individual needs.

To utilise the equipment provided correctly to ensure passengers travel safely and comfortably (full training given).

Taking responsibility for the daily upkeep of their vehicle and equipment (and other vehicles when required), including basic maintenance and cleanliness. Defect reporting is required.

The completion of necessary paperwork and administration, including fares collection from passengers and delivery of fares and drivers' sheets to the office.

To undertake any induction and in-service training programme as required.

To assist in training for other staff and volunteer drivers/escorts when required.

Contact by mobile phone is required.

OTHER DUTIES



To undertake other duties as required, including overtime cover, also "special" longer distance journeys.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS



Candidates must be over 21 years of age and hold a full driving licence with up to a maximum of 3 points for at least 2 years with a minimum D1 entitlement.

An ability to relate to older and/or people living with mobility challenges. Previous experience with older and/or disabled people is welcomes but not essential.

Good communication skills are essential. Our service users are vulnerable and depend on our drivers to make them feel secure and safe on their journey.

Candidates will be required to be a member of Disclosure Scotland PVG Scheme paid for by the Company.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES AND DRIVING SCHEME



The candidate will be expected to complete a driving assessment and if successful, complete:

- MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training;

- First aid;

- Manual handling;

- Disability awareness.

There are also opportunities to contribute and get involved with our advisory groups.

PAY SCALE



S.J.C. Scale

points 18

currently 12.60 per hour, enhanced rate of pay for overtime and weekend working.

(This post averages 35 hours per week with overtime available)



NATURE OF CONTRACT AND NOTICE



There is a 6 month's probationary period. Statutory notice periods apply. A degree of flexible working will be required.
