The Company Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting regulations, and providing financial insights to support data driven business decision-making. This role involves preparing financial reports, budgeting, tax management, and liaising with auditors and other key stakeholders.
Duties
Making sure the company remains compliant with UK law and regulations
Prepare and maintain accurate financial statements and reports
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends and business opportunities
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies
Develop quarterly/annual budgets and monitor financial performance
Prepare financial forecasts
Provide recommendations for cost optimisation
Ensure timely and accurate tax filings
Stay updated with tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance
Work with tax authorities and auditors as required
Oversee invoicing, collections, and payments
Negotiate and manage company insurances
Monitor outstanding receivables and payables to maintain cash flow
Implement internal controls to prevent financial risks
Review and approve expense reports and manage company credit cards
Coordinate internal and external audits
Assist contract managers with contract financial performance
Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets
Assisting the board of Directors/ senior management team where required
Managing/ supporting payroll
Oversee petty cash management
Assist with financial/legal requirements within tenders
Undertaking training where required
Supporting change management and business development processes
Skills
Strong knowledge of accounting principles
Proficiency in accounting software
Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance.
Ability to analyse financial data and present insights effectively.

5+ years of experience in an accounting role within a SME finance department.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with various accounting software (SAGE)

Qualifications
:
A recognised UK accountancy qualification (ACCA, ACA, or equivalent)
A degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred)
